Because IPS sorting always takes 2 hours :|TADLEYMUSH wrote:Do you sort mail as well like full timers?moodyarse wrote: i get 6 hours to do what they get 8 hours to do ! :
Bet you don't
I'm on a 32.5h contract, I come into work at half 7, full timers at 6. Depending on volume of manual mail that comes in, the fulltimers can be on the IPS anywhere from 50 minutes to 2 hours.
Quite often I come into the office and the IPS sorters have long finished and are well on their way to boxing in their flats on their own duties. And on days where they are still on the IPS when I come in, I have to go onto the IPS as well until its done :|

Re: PART TIMERS NEED A BREAK
I'm on a 24 hour contract, used to come in 4 days a week and do 6 hours, sort my own round and then do a smaller delivery. 100% reliable system and I had no problems with it. Then in April they screwed all the jobs up, and told me I'm now in 5 days a week and spare as my old beloved 24hr rounds had been axed, after which I had to work out MYSELF that I am due 4hrs 48 mins x 5, my own meal breaks, pouching off times, etc. as they kept trying to make me do 30 hour jobs with 4 hour deliveries, (or full time deliveries, which are actually easier) and I would come in half the time to find that the floater or a spare was on the job prepping my part time round and thus it wasn't boxed in, far too many times, then be faced with 2 hours of prep plus a 4hr + delivery. After not long I got completely sick of this and starting leaving bags, standing my ground, telling them exactly how my 4hr48 breaks down, and that I'm not happy about just being chucked on whatever round they feel like chucking me on, overtime is voluntary, etc.
They seem to be listening, and I am now covering what used to be a 24hr round, which is now full time, but only doing 30hrs (no IPS/processing), I was of course ASKED first, which I am pleased about, as my bitching evidently paid off. So 30 hrs on a 1hr city centre round followed by an hour on residential, a cushy deal compared to the new grueling 4hr part time jobs. Also with the strikes I am back to a 4 day week and still technically getting my full 24hrs. So for the moment, I win. I totally agree that us part timers got shafted worse than anyone else, especially those of us on 24hr or less, which is why I am staying at home on strike days.
The new part time system is completely unreliable and will totally fall apart at Christmas. A F/T expected to sort your round for you with his own Christmas mail piled on his frame? 40 minutes of his time won't even cover the Christmas parcels. Which means, we come in and have about 2 and a half/three hours worth of prep to do, and then a 4hr round which will be more like 5 hours at Christmas. Bring back the 4 day week
Rant over.
