I agree with you I think the demands from above are unrealistic I must admit I have not had "you implement that or we will get someone else in" the changes we have made have been agreed with all the staff and on a basis what we can realistically do, I always talk it through with the staff.
in that case wish more were like you, not blinkered and must do as im told
Would make everything so much easier and im sure we wouldnt be in this mess if the whole company had been sensible from the outset
I agree with you, and thanks for not taring me with the same brush as the others, I always listen to the staff's view's as they are the one's doing the work and know what they can and can not achieve, this is based on trust I am glad to say they trust me and I trust them, we do have a good working relationship which I am proud of.
I know there are Managers out there that should not be in the job, in my book as a Manager it's all about people and not reports, budgets ect ect.
Did you receive a 4 figure bonus this year? Weve been told ranged from £2000 up to £9000.
Of course you dont have to answer,
FTR my pay last year including all overtime and sa's was £22567.45 . I have nothing to hide so why should my DOM. He claimed he earned £25000 in the year, Thats it he said

I think as you say "Culled" nobody is immune to it ,including doms wam's ect Royal Mail will do what it intends to do
In my office it's 4 managers for 40 staff but whenever I first started it was 1 manager for 50 staff

Trouble is the templates have changed over the years, I wish I have the luxury of 4 managers !
Whereas now a manager of a delivery office with say 24 staff will recieve the same pay as a manager with 40 staff!!

He is THE DOM , thanks for your honesty a rare sight in my neck of the woods , fancy a transfer?
HI M.T I am A DOM not "THE DOM" its such a shame that honesty is rare in you office and thats the whole Problem, trust ,honesty, respect.
As a dom it takes time to earn that from people and thats whats missing is a lot of offices
you didn't tell me the grade of you manager so i can tell you his earnings

my apologies, he is the dom there is only one dom in our office, followed by 3 line managers and an acting line manager, i dont know if that helps. He was acting dom, but has been made up

Hi M.T
The acting dom will be on a posties wage plus substitution depending on the grade he is covering, he could be on aprox £480-500 gross per week but if he has been made up he will get paid monthly
he may have been made up for the strikes thay do that for acting managers
Or at least be off with 'shameitis' at the way they treat people.
dropping like flies - one was driven to a near suicide state due to a fit up by Senior Managers for not toeing the RM line - the option was redundancy or " discipline " . A vicious system , nobody is immune .
That is correct. Vicious Orwellian Thought Control.
my experience of royal mail where i worked was most of the managers were pretty good to be honest. My LM was old skool but was fair with everyone, and you could have a laugh with her. (yes, her). The MCM was a decent enough bloke too. Just depends where you work I suppose.
The only way you'll get change at the top is if you realise there is a problem, Higson has his arse stuffed somewhere...

most fair minded senior posties prefer it from the horses mouth providing there's no RM propaganda
1 of the managers at our office has recently been off with stress
you seem ok to me maxx theres always some managers that are level headed and realise the way to get the best from their staff is to treat them with respect, that is what makes a good manager, having the man managment skills. Also although they try to inforce it I known that most the managers are like us posties and would prefer the job to go back to how it was a few years ago.
I joined the Royal Mail 5 years ago, having worked in a variety of roles in sales, advertising, marketing, finance, property management & day trading on the stock market. What an eye opener into another world long since forgotten! It does not surprise me managers are off with depression - quite simply they are not fit to manage in the real world. A very sad situation & one which is not their fault. They have, in the main, been promoted from within, starting as a postman & then applying for promotion. However, the good majority are not capable of aspiring to the next level & are thus achieving a level of incompetence ( the Peter Priciple ). This is incredibly stressful & dangerous to individual health. There is much to do if the Royal Mail is really serious if they wish to move into the modern age. Thats where i leave it as i dont want to appear too patronising & too forthright, however the potential is amazing as long as everyone is motivated into achieving the highest desirable outcomes.

Hi MMax,
I am also a manager who was a postman a phg and a LA1 so have come up the hard way, to my knowledge i have never treated anyopne like dirt and get on well with the CWU rep in our office, I have been reading the comments regarding stage warnings and hand on heart can honestly say i have not issued more then i have issued as I look at the bigger picture. Yes this has made me unpopular with senior management but has also gained the respect from my staff and they know when i do issue a warning then it is fairly given.
I do know of managers who have gone sick with stress especially the front line ones as we get told to do things from above and take the flack from the staff, yes i have gone home many times stressed and feeling depressed as being a manager is a thankless task sometimes.
