In my DO, they'll work their day off and keep their duty on that day - never used to be like that. I'm a floater and am taken off my rotation so the "day-off worker" can keep his duty. I end up with any old crap due to these b'stards working day off. Oh, and if you challenge them as to why they are working their day off, they say" I have kids to keep, mouths to feed, bills to pay" - forgetting that the non working day -off'ers have the exact same f'cking issues, especially when we are striking :evil/mad

2 possible problems aarise from working your day off - although I suppose it does depend on how deeply ingrained the CWU is to each individual:

Normal/Non Strike Period.

Does the bloke who picked the rotation duty that covers your day off get a choice or do you bump him off the duty. If I get asked by my DOM if I can work my day off I will always ask the cover man if its OK as its his duty on my day off not mine.

If you are willing to work on any duty that is really free or uncovered then OK that's fair enough.

STRIKE PERIOD

The general idea behind a strike is to withdraw labour to make a point. If you then work overtime to clear it RM will be happy as it will work out cheaper for them in the long run.

Also another idea behind the strikes is to cause a back log if people come in on overtime to clear the back log its impacts on the success of the strikes.

But - in the end I suppose it must be based on personal choice and your own conscience.

id love to do it but no way i could afford anything over 2 weeks off pay in one go. Nothing about sorting men from boys but from being able to have my family live day to day under a roof rather than a cardboard box.
