Now I'm sure this is going to come as a surprise to you pj - but as disinteresting as your posts are, I for one don't care whether you go into work or notpeejay14 wrote:Not going anywhere. Will persist in making my voice heard. Maybe I'll try to be more concise in what I want to say. If you read all of this thread, some posties have tried to make sense of my posts and replied positively. I'm sure that there are lots of other posties in my position to whom going or not going on strike is far from a clear decision, and who also perhaps feel that the mood of the majority (union) is not presently minded to listen to their questions, their uncertainties, and their fears. Maybe I would make more ground here if the mood around the camp was not so on-edge and hostile, i.e. if there was not an on-going strike. I guess I hoped to find a more open forum of discussion than this. The reason I searched on-line for some answers is because I felt left behind by the sudden movement of the union to strike, and the mail-room is no place for question-time at the best of times. The stakes are high in this strike, and people are ultra-defensive of their own positions, to the extent that differing points of view have little or no chance at the moment of being considered in a calm and moderate fashion. I understand this better now than when I started posting. It's a tough time for all, on both sides and none. I wish both sides and all caught up in the dispute good luck.

As for the 'what type of postie are you?'
One that's sick of the way things are going.
One that has awful pain in his joints from time to time.
One that does his job to the best of his ability, but it's never good enough.
One that's sick of management making promises that they never keep.
One thats heard all the (management) stories and doesn't believe a word.
And a whole bunch of others....

In case you have a problem there pj here it is:
Genesis
6:16 A window shalt thou make to the ark, and in a cubit shalt thou finish it above; and the door of the ark shalt thou set in the side thereof; with lower, second, and third stories shalt thou make it.
6:17 And, behold, I, even I, do bring a flood of waters upon the earth, to destroy all flesh, wherein is the breath of life, from under heaven; and every thing that is in the earth shall die.
And if you need any wood - need I say more?

If your a postman im a rabbi
Iv read all 15 of your troll posts and although you are literate you made
too many mistakes iv never heard postman call it the mail room.
in delivery its usually the "office" in mail centres its often called the "floor" or more specifically
machine area /platform/ outward /inward and packets etc.
and why would you "not mind" going in to heavier bags and later finishes?
perhaps you pay people to abuse you on your day off
what kind of a postman are you?

Shocked by this - I saw this coming 18 months ago and it was confirmed by strike ballots being requested up to 6 months ago, sure did not come as a "sudden movement to strike" for me as it did for you.peejay14 wrote:The reason I searched on-line for some answers is because I felt left behind by the sudden movement of the union to strike, and the mail-room is no place for question-time at the best of times.

Re: What type of postie are you?
Maybe I'll start posting on the 'How was your day' thread, to convince people that a postie can hold my views, and say 'mail room'. I did once work in a 'mail room', with an agency, in a solicitors office, in Glasgow (I commuted to that job from out of town, and that's as much info as I think I can safely give, without giving the detectives on here too much to go on - I feel like I've done something wrong!). Perhaps that is where I still get the term from. Certainly yesterday was an awfully heavy day, it was getting dark as I finished my round (and I finish my round in a rural, poorly lit area - oops, more evidence (of a troll, or of a postie? Unthinkable!!)

Re: What type of postie are you?
Instead of picking on me, why not pick some of my comments to reply to. But this just doesn't seem to be a good time or place to be explaining personal reasons for choosing not to strike, or rather choosing to keep working but not with a closed mind. I'm not going to let others, even more experienced and knowledgeable than I, make my mind up for me. I'll take all the time I need to come to my decision as to who I will support, even though in my heart I wish I could somehow avoid taking sides. I'll walk my walk, until I choose my path. Heck, I've even admitted in this thread that I am open to persuasion from both sides, but it seems that in this climate I'm either with you or against you. The jail must be full, 'cause there's no room for prisoners.

Maybe if the union had its way, all those 'breaking the strike' would be shown the door, or at least be made to feel unwelcome ?

Re: What type of postie are you?
Absolutely not. That's a completely groundless and quite selfish attack on the CWU.
They are defending your working terms and conditions whether you are striking or not. They are supportive of all workers in the communications industry going so far as to allow CWU reps to represent non-union members in the workplace. All benifits won in this dispute will apply to CWU as well as non-CWU workers.
Trade Unions are inclusive organisations based on the principles of fairness and respect for all in the workplace. Shame on you for trying to blacken the work of the union movement. If you don't like what they do try working in a 3rd world sweat-shop. Workers in the UK were in identical conditions before the trade union movement evolved.
Finally, you are completely disregarding the intentions of the board at Royal Mail and are cwu obsessed. THERE ARE TWO SIDES IN THIS DISPUTE YOU KNOW. If you want RM to have their unrestrained way that's fine so long as you do 45 years in the job without complaining so much as once. Now please please go away I'm not interested in a debate with you and no-one else here is either. If you wanna talk to someone in your mail-room try asking a manager about what the changes mean to you.

Re: What type of postie are you?
I am going away, from this thread. Not so much a comment on the union movement, just a reflection on the attitudes of some people on here towards my posts. So you would like me to go away, why? Because I have said things that have upset you. Freedom of expression?opgpat wrote: Now please please go away I'm not interested in a debate with you and no-one else here is either. Because of your hard-line views, you would rather that I took my views elsewhere? This is exclusion. What would it be like if this were not a virtual meeting of minds?
