Anyway I've caused enough trouble here tonight - I'm sure you've all got lots of other things to talk about now that the next wave of strikes has been announced. Meanwhile the children's baths are beckoning...oh the excitement. I genuinely wish you luck & I won't be back to irritate you again today.

And I really am trying to appreciate your position. Many of those people who are directing their anger at you have had their incomes reduced in the recession, have lost their homes, have lost their businesses, have lost their jobs.G O Root wrote:I appreciate what your saying Connie, but what about our kids birthdays and christmases next year when RM try to cut payment of D2D items(10% a week in some cases) and try to reduce our contracts and in a lot of cases dismiss them alltogether....I'm amazed that a lot of peoples anger seems to be at us, the postie, who have served the public and Royal Mail for years, a quarter of a century in my case ....I just think some of the general publics anger should be directed at the management of a PUBLIC sevice and indeed the owner of said service i.e the Government who are trying to run it into the ground.
You are expecting 60 million people to accept their lives being affected by the 61,000 people who voted to strike. So in my case: you are expecting me to rearrange my life by going to the PO for my tax disk, taking my kids shopping for Christmas rather than online, accepting that my son's birthday cards and presents just aren't going to turn up & dealing with all that this brings... all little things of course & very dull, but this is how my life is. Having to rearrange it for 'the greater good' of strangers and for the foreseeable future doesn't exactly make me feel sympathy. And I'm probably one of the softer touches - these days the average consumer puts up with just about nothing.
So I will never understand how this can end in anything but tears, most likely yours. And I really really appreciate the postal service in its current state, but most won't once their lives are being disrupted. Sorry.
No need to be sorry, that's your opinion. As i said in my other post , it's human nature to feel anger at being put out, etc etc, but the bottom line is the public feel this way because it's a dog eat dog world and everyone thinks about themselves first. You know" you can put up with any crap just make sure i get my mail". That's a natural feeling ,but don't be surprised when posties do the same. It is a real cliche ,but you really do have to work there to fully understand. And by the way , it's my sons birthday on Wednesday, we are members of the public too.

Connie I am confused you say in one of your earlier posts that you have time to post on the forum because your business is down 75% and then later you say you would be the last to want to see anybodies small business go down. Well if only a few days of strike action can cause your business to drop by 75% and cause so much inconvenience to your daily life surely you should be supporting us in our bid to maintain a PROFITABLE PUBLIC SERVICE. Because if your business is down 75% after such a small amount of IA it is well on the way to becoming a victim of the higher prices privitisation will bring.

quite shocking, if a Manager drove to my house to make me come back to work before I am ready will be having a harassment claim put on him.

If you are running a small business there is nothing stopping you offering courier delivery option for extra. So if customer want it quick they can pay extra, or wait a little longer. (assuming you sell something on e-commerce/e-bay)

Could not have putter it better myself.Shrek wrote:G O Root wrote:I appreciate what your saying Connie, but what about our kids birthdays and christmases next year when RM try to cut payment of D2D items(10% a week in some cases) and try to reduce our contracts and in a lot of cases dismiss them alltogether. Funny how the tories and Kenneth Clarke should crow about what they would do, when clarke was one of the main players in the 13 year pensions holiday, which is one of the main reasons for where we are now. We all suffer in this apart from a priviliged few i.e the Royal Mail board who can enjoy their fat bonuses. Most of the general public seem to think privatisation is a bad idea, but don't seem to realise that that's the very reason Adam Crozier was brought in. I'm amazed that a lot of peoples anger seems to be at us, the postie, who have served the public and Royal Mail for years, a quarter of a century in my case . We don't make the rules, but we are fighting for our livliehoods and for the publics service. And th :is certainly doesn't apply to you , as you seem very reasonable, but i'm sick of getting stick off people on this forum and in the wider public , having a go and calling us lazy sods etc etc. People who have nothing better to do than sit on internet forums and tell us to leave our jobs if we don't like it. My challenge to them and anyone with the same attitude is come and try the job. I do a lot of training new starters and every single one have said how it's opened thier eyes and changed thier opinions, so it can't be that easy can it. I know the public are frustrated, i understand it, we are RM customers too, we get mail, use Ebay etc. I just think some of the general publics anger should be directed at the management of a PUBLIC sevice and indeed the owner of said service i.e the Government who are trying to run it into the ground.![]()

But tomorrow is another day. Please listen too us all we (posties) provide a service which you miss if we go on strike but we (posties) have to do what our managers tell us it is our managers who cut the service and expect us to pick up the peices while they get big fat bonuses for our efforts!. And if we cannot earn their bonus for them they bully us and try to sack us for not running around like donkeys for their benefit in an age with human rights donkeys on blackpool beech have more rights than the people who deliver your post day in day out!.CustomerConnieagain wrote:Anyway I've caused enough trouble here tonight - I'm sure you've all got lots of other things to talk about now that the next wave of strikes has been announced. Sometimes you do have to strike. If marching and petitions made much of a difference, we never would have gone to war in Iraq.
Yeah, I also realize that striking sometimes doesn't make much difference either (as the miners and the newspaper guilds found out in the 1980s.) But in this case, with an election months away, Christmas around the corner, the CWU is playing the best of a none-too-strong hand. And let's be honest... How great can management be if they've got the support of the government?

Spot on, Connie. That's why we are taking this stand.CustomerConnieagain wrote:

Just spilt stain-remover down my shirt. Now how do I get that out?
