Re: What type of postie are you?
Peejay, you are well aware of what the prevailing mood is here, and your continued comments are provoking more responses - fair enough, you might say, but as you refuse to acknowledge the reasoned arguements why people are withdrawing their labour, imho, you are exacerbating deliberately the very responses you complain about.peejay14 wrote:I'm putting my case for personal choice. I crossed the line last week - I'm not proud of doing it, and I'd rather I didn't have to, but as a member here, and knowing many other members from here, I could not take part in discussions and have members assume I was solid. I explained the reasons behind my choice, and how painful it was to decide. There were various replies, most people treated me in a reasonable manner, asking why I did it, or suggesting I should rethink my position, but I haven't made a big noise about it, and the discussion has moved on.....maybe you should follow a similar line for a while and tone down your posts, and see what happens to people's attitudes to you.

Re: What type of postie are you?
I would have thought that anyone strongly in favour of the strike, and firm in their stance, would welcome the opportunity to argue with a relatively new postie the merits of going on strike. I want people to talk me down, and I will graciously admit defeat if/when my own reasoning runs out of steam. What will fail to persuade me however is jeering from one side or the other. I am on neither side, I'm just walking the line down the middle and listening to both sides while I make up my mind, delivering mail as I go. Surely there is enough room in here for me? Don't think that there are only two sides to the dispute, there is at least one other and I fall into that category. I am still in shock at the decision to strike, because I was ready to take on the workload and put myself to the test. I am struggling daily to complete my round, striking was not an option for me however. I was ready to grow into my duty, to raise my game, thinking 'Sh!t, this is tough, but come on, I can do it', but now the majority have ruled that I will never be given that chance to prove myself. I am having to take a step backwards and assess the situation, and I felt that I needed to take soundings from others who were perhaps better prepared to deal with it.
So, here's a chance for anyone who wishes to lay it on thick and get off their chest the reasons why they are striking (or not!), and to perhaps relate that to what sort of a postie they think that makes them. It might even be a morale boost to realise that you are not half as bad a postie as you thought you were upon reflection, or after reasoning you may realise that your actions or decisions turn out to make you less of the postie you thought you were.

By making this choice and scabbing you are working hand in glove with management to decimate our pay and conditions. At best your actions will help to prolong this dispute thus taking money directly from the pockets of those with the moral strength of character to honour the result of the ballot, at worse you actively seek to deny us union representation.
Would you like us all to pretend that you have done nothing wrong and that your actions are those of a caring empathetic individual? Get real.
As the Buddhist would say ,actions breed consequences ,you made your choice, the rest of us pay the price , why should we pretend that you're a good guy?

After all this time you still don't know what both sides of the argument are? It all stems from the 2007 pay and modernization agreement go read up on it would be here all night typing it out for you.
In your own little dream world you might think that you are on neither side, crossing a picket line suggests otherwise.

Re: What type of postie are you?
Sorry as a moderator I don't have time to read all of that post and I am genuinely sorry as it looks heartfelt.peejay14 wrote: By going to work I will not be making a statement, I will just be... going to work. The story accompanying the exhibit at the museum, of when the posties went on strike and (who knows what?) will not feature me, because I'm not playing a part in it. I will go unnoticed, hopefully, on Saturday.
However the bit quoted above jumped out at me. Sorry mate but you cannot take your own responsibility out of action you take. By the act of striking or breaking the strike you are making a statement. If you strike, your statement is that you agree with the outcome of the ballot and that you want certain changes to be made. By breaking the strike you are making a statement that you accept the changes that Royal Mail are making or have made, and that their style of management is acceptable.
There is no middle ground you are making a statement no matter which way you decide to go, and you are taking part. There is no hiding place every action come with responsibility and by definition every action has a part in the overall outcome. Whether we win or not, the action you took, whichever way it is, had a part in that outcome.
