'Flexing' Tomorrow.

We were told today that we're expected to come in half an hour late tomorrow and that we'd be expected to make that half an hour up on Monday.

The union were onto this like a flash as the 2007/9 deal is pretty clear that 'flexing' can only be done in the same week and can't be carried over to another week.

However, despite having the document which the DIM had signed stating this, he wouldn't budge and insisted that this is what was going to happen.

Didn't Mandy say yesterday that we should all honour the 2007/9 agreement?!

Has this happened anywhere else and what would you advise?

Oh and this is happening because the DIM reckons mail will be '60% down' tomorrow....we'll probably get sky, matalan, virgin and some council bulk postings then!

oh and yes it has to be done within the same working week, they can ask you to work half hr late monday but have to give u half hr back next week not this week. But remember they can only ask and not force you. You cannot be disciplined if you dont do it they are just trying their luck

They have tried it on in the North West too. Union has shot it down.

Our DOM thingy reckoned traffic was going to be down 40% tomorrow, not 60%. Insert your preferred lie when addressing the staff time eh?

I will be starting and finishing at my usual time tomorrow in line with the 2007 National Agreement. End of.

FellChair, you're correct, the 1/2 hour flexing cannot be carried over to another week. If your local rep is getting no joy from your dom tell him /her to take it higher. Oh, and tell your dom where to shove it

Well in theory flexing should be good for us but you can be sure we'll never get any benefit from it. Trying to get a day off lately is hard enough!

Not only have they tried it on in our office they have succeeded - because the union are not forceful enough. When they said flex tomorrow and pay back Monday it was explained that they had to have the Flex in the same week - he then changed his mind and said it was banking hours and then it was explained that it only came under Phase 4 which hasn't been agreed or even discussed.

Needless to say the gutless warriors will be turning up half an hour late because they don't trust the union to defend them and the union have failed to unite the office in sticking to the agreement of 2007.

A manager can only ASK you to give him a half hour of YOUR own time, the idiot cannot demand a half hour of your time, and plans be damned, it's YOUR time, NOT the company's. Tell the twat you'll be busy scratching your balls, or something, once your contracted time is up.

Dom informed me he was stopping everybody working their day off tomorrow this affected 7 staff and told everybody they will be flexing, all the early starters kicked off and spat their dummies out.Dimwits will hopefully see the full picture, if your sat around waiting for the missorts to come in your going to flex big style.

But what if, say, a strike is called for next Friday, and the DOM says on Monday 'we need you to work 30mins extra today, and we will give you the time back ... on Friday'

Can we refuse under those circumstances ? Cos he'll say 'if you choose not to come in on Friday, it will your fault you didn't get your 30mins back'

Flexiblity is a two way thing it is not their for management but for all if their intransigents persists tell them all to go to hell as one and all!. This is why we are all on strike now their hand is bitten we now see thier true intentions for one and all it is plain too see for all!.
