PEEJAY im a very militant postie and you guessed it pro-strike but that doesnt make me a bad postie does it.

Before coming to R/M 14 yrs ago all my previous jobs were very physical demanding jobs .

But none of them can beat this job for physical exhaustion on a daily basis. The wear and tear on your limbs is horrendous and i have never ached like i do now in parts i didnt know existed.

I am proud to work for R/M and i do most days enjoy my job especially once i am out the office. I am not and never have been a led puller and i work DAM hard every day for a company that tries to bully, intimadate and harass me and i couldnt work any other way as its not in my nature.

But i will not step aside any longer and except this treatment and by taking action in this dispute i am showing R/M i have had enough of this outdated way of treating loyal employees.

I truly believe you are missing the point of this dispute through possibly no fault of your own ,as you have only been in a short period of time. I can understand that you dont want to get caught up in all the politics but after a few more years service under your belt you will be. I was like you when i first started just came in got on with my job to the very best i could and once my final letter was in home and job forgotten about until the following day.

What will happen to you is like us you will see the business change year after year and not for the better . You will see a constant attack on us year in year out with the office savings that you know cant be achieved but will be forced on you .

R/M was once a very proud institution but for far to long now it has been run by baffoons who are tearing it apart and throwing it into the gutter so they may sell it off cheap to the highest bidder.

Me my friend and all my union colleagues will fight to keep this a proud institution and we will fight for better working conditions, we will fight against the bullying the intimadation and the harassing for everyone you included.

If we do not fight there will be no future.

Because i have these views peejay it doesnt change my mentality towards how i approach my working day im proud to know that i go to work everyday and put in a f***ing hards graft weirdly its very satisfying. My friend you to have to make this stand but this is somethink we will never see eye to eye on ,i truly beleiev one day you will see it as everyone does just with some it takes a few years.

I don't envy having to make the choice you did hoonie - and last week only getting 4 days work meant I had to cross the line ( I'm still feeling guilty as sin about it, even though I could see no other way ) this week though, Saturday is my day off, so I'm giving up 7.15hrs of docket to stand on the line - hopefully, things will improve for you quickly, and you can join me Hoonie :pray

As long as you are not asking the union to represent you, your striking colleagues to appreciate you, and as long as you do not benefit from a deal struck whatsoever, I see no problem?

In other words, we suffer while strikebreakers get paid and reap the benefits of us being on strike. You see the problem now?

As for what postie I am, well I consider myself a man of principles. My union voted for a strike by a majority and I respect that.
Well said Bro...Nail on head comments there.

But what 'type' of postie? This is a fast changing thought, but to put it bluntly I think that I am not the type of postie that worries about what the customer thinks of the service. Don't get me wrong, I take pride in my own work, but as long as I am doing what the company asks of me (never easy) then I go home content.
Here it is PJ. I'm guessing you haven't worked for 'Royal' Mail long, as you will have noticed the decline over the last several years. It's one of the last remaining once great public services that used to be valued as No.1 by the public, and imitated around the world, but now is being eroded by management/politicians.

Then again, if you don't care what the customer thinks of you, maybe you're right - as the company will ask more and more from you for less, without giving a stuff about what the most numerous customer - the public - thinks or wants. (ie. second deliveries, post before going to work, anyone? )

The "I'm alright jack" syndrome comes across very clearly in your post.

I think people who've worked at RM for years probably care more about our "lot".
But if you don't care its fair enough and you're entitled not to strike.
People are different.

Thorby Bislam wrote:You wont get any abuse or ridicule from me. That is a long well thought-out post, and as such deserves a respectful answer. Although I cannot agree with your conclusions, I'll try to give you a serious answer.

What type of postie are you ? In your own words, you are the type of postie, the type of man, who thinks only of today, never of tomorrow. For example, you say ...
To my simple mind, I get paid to work. And after that brainwave, I focus all my energy upon my duty. I'm not interested in striking or improving my lot. I take what I'm given and I'm grateful. If I ever again reach the point where I become dissatisfied with what I am doing with my life, then I will move on to something else. I just have never been taught that if I do not like what I am given then I must ask the people who gave it to me to get their act together or else I will refuse their gift in the future until they do. I have been taught, or at least I have learned, that if I do not like what I am given then I must look elsewhere for something better.
You, Peejay, have no commitment to the service or to your colleagues. In fact, I wonder if you even see them as colleagues ? Or are they, to you, simply people who occupy the same space as you for eight hours a day ? If that is the case, nothing I or anyone else on here can say will mean a thing. You'll work blindly on until you decide you've had enough and then you'll leave.

Are you able to comprehend that thinking like that is alien to almost every other postman ? We have worked for this company for some time, some of us for decades, and we are committed to it. We see a once world-leading company being reduced to a third world sweatshop and we are angry about it. We are angry because we care. If we didn't care, we wouldn't be taking IA.

without going to to much detail about my finances NO i cant afford to lose £70 a week on top of what my wife is now going to lose after having her hours cut.....anyone with an objection to me putting my family above the people who work for the same company as me then YOU come up with a way for me to find the £1300 a month i need for my mortgage and council tax and i will gladly stay out and stand on the picket line as i have done in all the previous disputes in my 15 years with Royal Mail.
we will get shafted because Ward, Hayes and the like ( who wont be losing a days pay) will cave just as they did in 2007 to appease the people they aspire to be like ie the Libour MP's.
this is a government plot to sell off this company and ease themselves of the burden of the pension black hole and when they get kicked out of power in the next election the Tories or Lib Dems will sell us off if Liebour havnt managed it.
coming from a family background where on my mothers side they were Welsh miners and my fathers side Geordie ship builders i have had to have a long think about this choice and it has not been easy but MY families needs come first
so when i cross that line and i take the abuse from those on it i will have to take it on the chin and put up with it.
unlike the miners strike in the 80's there is no community to pull together and help each other out so at the end of the day its unfortunately everyone for themselves so if im being selfish so be it

If you earn £347 per week that is £1388 per month, you can then add on you wifes wages, your family tax credit which by the sounds of it you should be entitled to, your family allowance, any overtime you can get, door to doors, cutting back on luxuries for while ie: alcohol, tobacco, takeaways, meat...go veggie for a while a lot cheaper, chocolate, bring sarnies in, dont use the car, go on interest only mortgage..etc......i could go on.

I know we are not on a fantastic wage but i would be suprised if you could not honestly take a look at your weekly out goings and not cut back on a few things just for a few weeks.....

blah blah blah. We all have mortgages and families mate. Like the guy said, get rid of your broadband, sell your car, give up meals out and luxuries. We are making sacrifices so why the hell shouldn't you when you will benifit from our struggle? We loose this you won't be able to afford your bills for much longer. Fancy a pay cut and being put down to 30hrs? Get real.
