It's built into your duty hours,if you don't go they could feasibly dock you 30 minutes pay,why not go and question everything he/she says and laugh at him/her when they can't answer any questions.

Different managers on different shifts at my place have vastly different attitudes to this. The lates manager hates doing WTLL sessions as much as we hate going to them, so if people just sign to say they have attended, he's happy because I think part of their bonus depends on being seen to have achieved a high percentage of people attending for WTLL ?
The earlies manager once threatened people with the conduct code for not going to WTLL. But one of us said "so let me get this straight - you are going to discipline me for working when I could have been sitting on my @rse listening to a load of old b*llocks?. I wonder what the local and national press would think of that and whether they'd be interested in running the story " :Applause Exit manager with tail between his legs

Our Manager/s that we have had come and go within the last 2 years must be getting paid so much they aren't interested in Bonus Payments as I haven't had a WTL session for well over 18 months. The only means of communication out in our rural office is hearsay from the drivers that deliver the mail out to us.

Once your Line Manager has said 'obviously' every other word for fifteen minutes, you will discover what a nugget he is and any respect anyone might have had for him will have vanished. These WTL bore fests are great for doing that.

The manager who took our session told another manager that i was unruly and a trouble causer :nana

THE WTL ROW...

Post by L Tommo »

I used to row with the screws in WTL but in the end found out after even knowing in my heart they never bothered to listen. That the best way to piss a screw off is to all sit there and ignore him/her. And just tell them feck all. Then put everything in writing after and put it in to the DOM or MCM.. The real people we should be sending all the gripes and moans is to BIG AL himself... Do as he does to us.. Plague him with moans and groans of why ur screw is useless and never listens and we all cant stand WTL's anymore because no one ever listens.. Same goes for HAVE YOUR SAY forms... DONT FILL EM IN enmass and then something will be flared up in head office why not one form has been filled in.. This will say more than all the bullshite that they come out wiv... No comment is something they cant put spin on or bullshite about... If we all stay strong with things then RM will buckle under Gorden Browns New broom sweeping clean.. Lets hope :pray

I have a reputation for asking difficult questions, too. Some geezer I've never heard of came and did our WTLL this week, trying to persuade us not to walk on Friday. It was all scaremongering about the competition, and how it's no good complaining about not having a 'level playing field', we've got to modernise to take on our rivals, and find new products and new sources of revenue etc etc. You should have seen the look on his face when I said

So tell me, why is it that when I sent an email to the askallan@royalmail email address last year, to enquire what plans RM have to compete in DHL and TNT's domestic markets once they are opened up to competition in January 2009, the answer that eventually came back was 'we don't have any plans to do this' ?? :d'oh!

Must be because our incompetent managers can't be trusted to set up and run a successful overseas operation, if the total mess they've made of Royal Mail up to now is anything to go by :dance

I have defended the CWU on many occasions during the bombardment of anti union slagging off, i kept members updated through WTL in defense of CWU and the manager has tried to pin an harrassment charge on me for this! I am puzzled as to why RM are forcing their managers to try and split the union when their own union and themselves have run down royal mail to the press?
puzzling isnt it?
Has arsehole leighton promised them a free book! :lfo :cfo :cuppa

A GOOD WAY TO COUNTERACT BOLLOX - IS TO SAY TO EVERYONE PRESENT 'HANDS UP WHO AGREES WITH (FR INSTANCE) SUMMER LAPSING, ETC' OF COURSE NO ONE IS EVER TAKING MUCH ATTENTION AND NO HANDS GO UP! I LOVE USING THAT ONE!

Work time learning was only good for doing kill offs or reaidng the paper but now the managers have put a stop to that in our place.
