INVISIBLE MAN BREAKS COVER

Royal Mail boss Adam Crozier was finally tracked down by the Mirror yesterday but still refused to discuss the strike.

Labelled the Invisible Man, Crozier has not been seen - or even heard - as stoppages crippled the public organisation he heads.

We snapped the elusive executive leaving his £2million home in leafy Weybridge, Surrey, just after 6am.

When the £1.3million-a-year boss was asked how he planned to fix the Royal Mail, Crozier bowed his head and remained silent.

He stubbornly refused to answer further questions from the Mirror and sped off in a Jaguar.

Crozier, 45, has declined to speak publicly since the dispute flared up, an "amazing" approach, said the Communication Workers' Union.

Yesterday we told how a Mirror reporter managed to get inside his plush riverside office overlooking the Thames in Unilever House, central London. Crozier was nowhere to be seen amid all the luxury designer furniture.

We offered to wait for him, but one of his aides told us: "Actually, I'd rather you didn't."

Last night after widespread disruption the CWU said they were willing to call off stoppages scheduled for next Thursday, Friday and Saturday if Crozier and fellow bosses took up their offer of "unconditional" talks at Acas.

The union's Dave Ward said: "This should be enough time to reach agreement." Royal Mail responded to the peace offer by saying: "We are continuing to urge the union to call off all strikes in the interests of our customers."

At least 40,000 delivery workers took part in the action yesterday, in the wake of 42,000 mail centre staff and drivers on Thursday.

They are protesting at a pay freeze and cuts to jobs.

The CWU said the action was "solid" and has accused managers and government of wanting to force a dispute and smash unions.

Royal Mail said 55,000 of the 78,000 delivery staff were rostered to work yesterday and 11,000 turned up. The spokesman added: "We are very grateful to the 20% of delivery staff who came to work."

The Fire Brigades Union last night decided to go ahead with industrial action for 24 hours in South Yorks over plans to change shift patterns and sack 744 crew.

11,000 out of 78,000 is 14% at best and that is if you believe their figures in the first place.
Even Royal Mail is admitting the strike was 86% SOLID.
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

Good story - someone mentioned this at work today.
Customers have repeatedly and rightly lashed out at Crozier for his lack of leadership and his excessive wages.

It seems the Invisible Man wants to earn some double time by appearing on the the Andrew Marr Show tomorrow morning, beginning 9 am. The guy does not have much of TV interview knack so we should hear all the old tiresome clichéd diatribe that has come out of senior management during the week. It will be good to see him squirm, sweat and hold back the ragging ego especially if Marr presses him on the issues. Don't get up especially: set the video. I think we have all earned our day off.

Perhaps we should email Andrew Marr with a few questions for :cfo
So keep on moving, moving, moving your feet
Keep on shuf-shuf-shuffling to this ghost dance beat
Just keep on walking down never ending streets

Like how big is his pension pot?. Does he turn up for work every day and does he work the hours for which he is being paid for?. And why is the UK postal service being run as a business for the AVARISE OF THE FEW AT THE TOP!.

Crozier is in danger of becoming damaged beyond repair and he must know, if he has got his head in the real world, that if he cocks it up tomorrow all the big guns in the media could be turned on him.

If he just rolls out the tired old Royal Mail cliche's they can easily be challenged with a wealth of fact that is now in the public domain.

Spring a surprise on him and substitute Andrew Marr with Jeremy Paxman at the eleventh hour or someone with the ability to give him a real grilling.

I'm afraid I can't see :cfo getting a rough ride off Marr , if Marr gave :cfo a hard time ; Marr would be hauled over the coals because if you upset New Labour too much ; New Labour will make things very difficult regarding funding & license fee increases for " Aunty " .

Alaistair Campbell used to be notorious for that , you wondered who was really in charge . It used to be a bit " We know where you live " :hmmmm .

For all their faults , C4 are better at putting the boot in .

If Dave Snooty gets in , it'll be a lot different , he used to be a spin doctor for the cr** TV station Carlton , that's why he's got such a big chip on his shoulder . As far as he's concerned , the sun really does shine out of Murdoch's ar** .
