Is it class 1 buisiness or something else?
check this thread - but think before you do it there are both gains and pitfalls - the pitfalls are f***ing big ones.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.
My BFF Clash
The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Look Mate
If you use you're car it's gonna cost you more money for fuel and insurance.
RM management will put pressure on you to do more work and go over your time with the old chestnut of "You've got your own car it won't take you long"
You may be co-erced into giving other posties lifts down to they're point of delivery (delaying the time you start yours). And also you could be breaking the law for overloading your car.
If you're car is broken into and the mail stolen it's your responsibilty, hence they'll sack you!
It's Royal Mails responsibilty to get you to you're walk and to have organised you're safe drop points for you're other bags.
If you do the job properly they can't touch you, if you use you're own car it'll open up a whole can of worms.

Why don't you take some advice from people who have done the job over 20 years, don't use your car it aint worth it.

To be honest I am...listen.

As a new starter and have been given an old bike with no paniers; and today it killed me: I just know what to do with the door to doors. This would help me, especially learning all of the rounds.

As i say i respect your opinions, and I want to use a bike; but while I'm learning the trade this would be a help for me.

If any body knows what my insurance form has to say; please help...and I'm not going to resort to getting into a slanging match.

Thank you.

what office are you from? pm me the answer to that :whistle
as going by your name i am guessing your from by me somewhere.

Like everyone has already told you do yourself a favour and DONT USE YOUR CAR :no no

there is no such form for your car insurance you just have to inform your car insurance that you are using it for business use
and pay the extra they will charge you.
Also your manager should be checking your car under H&S so tell him you are using it.

1. Door to Doors, if you are a new starter you have enough on your plate. Just do 20% a day don't try and do them all in one hit. Once you get used to the job yeah you can do them on one day.

2. Get yourself some panniers, if you manager hasn't got any new ones then ask about. Somebody will have some spares until your DOM orders you some new ones.

3. Chill out :cool

I am a postie on what is designated a rural area - and the other walks around me are "rural" - however mine is 90 percent housing estate. I have many more drops than my fellow posies but they are clustered together so walking is the best option for delivery. I use my car to drive to the area and then walk the streets - my car is therfore the mobile bag drop. I have told my insurance company what I do and they have said that "Class 1 business use" is what I need. This gives the driver "use in connection with his/her business". I am not sure is this is enough cover and RM management do not seem to be keen to advise me.

I fully agree with the CWU positiotion that private cars should not be used and have wanted to stop using my car - however I inherited the following problems when I took over this round...

1. there are no bag drops - and the managers are not going to set them up (is it there resposibility or mine??)
2. the walk is approx. 3.5 miles from the office and no extra time is allowed for this as the last postie used his car too
3. there is no safe place on the walk to store a bike and no bike allocated to this walk

What would happen if you didn't use your car? Surly your DOM would have to do something?

What about your day off, does the person that covers you use their car too?
