Ideally there should be local branch meetings to ensure solidarity although I doubt it will happen as B&H is endemic in Royal Mail at the present time.

LETTER TO ALL UNITE – CMA MEMBERS

Dear Colleague,

You will be aware that members of the Communication Workers Union are taking industrial action, following a ballot, across the country this week.

We are writing to you, as a Unite member employed by Royal Mail, to make clear your union’s backing for the CWU in its action. It is our wish to give the CWU all possible support within the law to help ensure a satisfactory settlement to the dispute.

We would therefore ask you to ensure that you undertake no work beyond your normal duties which would assist management in its efforts to undermine this legitimate industrial action.

Please be assured that if you are subject to any management pressure to undertake such duties, you will have the union’s strong support. Indeed, should Royal Mail seek to bully or discipline any CMA member as a consequence of this dispute, Unite will not hesitate to organise a ballot for industrial action in support of any such colleague.

Do you really think most of these spineless managers would turn around after an 8hr shift and say they were going home!!! they wouldn't get their coat on but one of their "mates" would be on the blower to report them and watch them s**t themselves if any threats were made against them....waste of time sending that letter out cos they never support us except lip service

Do they seriously believe that any CMA members would go out of strike? There are many reasons why they wouldn't but I recall that when they struck, back in the 70's for just one day, deliveries and the despatch worked without a hitch much to the chagrin of the 'Inspectors' and the delight of the Head Postmaster.

Mind you, I believe it was a Friday, so they did try to prevent our getting our pay packets by stuffing them into a mail bag addressed to the duty PEB. This was designed to embarrass the HP as he was the only person with the authority to open the bag. We had a meeting and everyone agreed to wait until the next day for their wages which was a classic 'up yours', gov.

They are not asking CMA members to strike, just not to perform tasks that are proper to another Trade Union.

Our managers do grade work all year, slash duties then run the machines on meal breaks,and sort mail there was a time this would be challenged but the aggressive management style and the consequences faced soon put paid to that, all morning yesterday in our mail centre the managers ran the machines
