Royal Mail insists the workers will not carry out duties of permanent staff.

So what are they hiring them to do?

If RM are making this kind of statement to the press they must be taking the public for mugs too.

I believe correct me if i am wrong
We sort mail into 1st and 2nd class and we then sort it for all over the country,now if they are not doing are duty's they are doing work which is respectfully done by our hard working MC staff unless i spent 11 years in a dream before i went back to deliverys,if they are not doing our work what are we paying them for.
Royal Mail Senior management have lost the plot if they think the public are going to believe that,dont take joe public as being fools they are alot more clued up than that.

Presumably RM's argument will be that they will only use the casuals when the CWU are NOT on strike. Technically that would seem not to break the law, however, the mere fact that at no other time would this number of casuals be employed, the only conclusion anyone - I don't include judges in this - can come to is that they are being used to do postal staff work.

In fact, if an employer is allowed to get away with this type of strike breaking then this precedent will render the law irrelevant and open the flood gates to similar actions by other employers.

Perhaps other Unions should assist the UCW (Sorry, its a habit) the CWU in this fight.

Nice idea, however Daily Mail reporter, under cover had to cross a picket line and he says he was clearing the back log

This was my introduction to my first day working undercover as a temporary recruit to the Royal Mail - joining as a 'scab' (or strike breaker) to keep the postal service operating during the industrial action.
