Dealing with Strike Breakers

Post by dogfood »

What are the union doing regarding the hiring of temporary staff?

The following link is promising
http://www.recruiter.co.uk/cwu-could-st ... 31.article

However, looks like a lawyers gold pot as it is a gray area.

I feel the union have missed 2 huge stories that could have a hugh impact on public opinion.
The Recruiting of Strike Breakers and the Leaked Document re the breaking of the Union.
Regarding the leaked document the silence from the leaders of all the other unions is deafening. If the CWU go so will the rest of the unions.

Don't agree atall. In the press conference on Wednesday after negotiations broke down Billy and Dave pushed the points across about the leaked document showing RM have no intention of reaching a deal and they also commented that legal action will be taken in respect to casual staff employed to do strikers work.

So the answer is the Union are actively building a legal case as we speak and all staff have been asked to send any info/pic to the union at an email address. It was posted on here but can't find it. The case has to be very tight as the Union can't afford to lose such a potentially massive case.

In many posts on the forum people are complaining about the Union missing chances to publicize various examples of RM doing or saying something that would damage their stance.

Its a fact of life that the Union has no control over the media, most of which as we well know are both neither interested in the truth or are controlled by those who oppose us.

Now if there was a riot of postmen in the middle of a large city you wouldn't see MP's expenses, the Afghan war, Strictly or some celebrity having a baby - the usual front page fodder - get a mention.

Incidentally, if you get a visit from the media on the picket line, encourage them to go to the Callers Office and ask for an interview or someone to answer their questions. Way back in the early '90's we did that and a manager told the guy to 'go away' (if you know what I mean). From that moment we had the local radio support which proved superb and was a big help when trying to get a return to work agreement.
