At least the Guardian was on our side today(22 OCT). Told it like it is! Public in my area (London) seem to be on our side - but blaming us for no second delivery and post arriving after midday - not my fault!! I don't make these decisions. Anyway, if they are complaining about not getting their post until 1.30 -2.00pm how are they also claiming that we are sitting in a pub finished at 11.30?

I think there won't be a lot of front page coverage tomorrow. Apparently some bloke arriving at the BBC has caused a bit of a stir today.

Support from the public was brilliant today. I do a town centre walk and had the 'I thought you were on strike' convo many, many times, with shop staff, people in the street, people pulling up in their cars to talk to me. Every single person I spoke to was behind the strike. Not one negative comment. Lots of people asked for details on the reasons behind the action: it was great to be able to tell people face-to-face what is going on, why we are on strike and what we are fighting to save, and to get the positive response and hear the words of encouragement. One bloke literally slapped me on the back.

On top of strike-related stuff, I was approached a lot more than usual for just general help and advice today; there was an old lady couldn't get the pound coin out of her shopping trolley, and one guy said he had been wandering around lost for four hours (!) before he came up to me to ask for directions.

It felt great to hear the public support for this dispute, and it felt good to be useful, approachable and helpful, exactly what a postie should be.

There have been a few articals online today that have explained the strike in clearer terms, some have even spoken to postal workers to get their side of the story. Plenty of public comments have been negative because people naturally think of how it affects them - it's our job too inform them why post is being delivered later and the prospect of even later delieveries thanks to Royal Mail.
