Re: How can this strike be won?
Mandelson needs to withdraw support before RM back down. With him encouraging and backing them they are untouchable. However if the press come out for us that could win it regardless.
Postal deliveries aren't like gov services. People are effected straight away in a big way so an all out could put the press and public against us overnight. The public will def not stand for no post atall over XMAS. 3days out next week - that's piling on the pressure and testing the waters, sensible approach.

Unlikely that Mandy will withdraw support, seeing as he's the one who has been tasked with aiding and abetting the EU directives behind the dispute.opgpat wrote:Mandelson needs to withdraw support before RM back down. What a strange sort of "democracy" we live in when a twice disgraced and unelected schemer gets to exert such personal influence over the future of a public asset. It just looks like corruption at the highest level

Good observation but not long now till General Election and last thing Labout want to be seen doing is bashing the workers. If public get behind us Mandy will have to back off.kingtubby wrote: Unlikely that Mandy will withdraw support, seeing as he's the one who has been tasked with aiding and abetting the EU directives behind the dispute.

Have you seen him on TV today? Also heard him on radio and i thing he's given up already. He looks defeated, I think he's handed it over to the RM management already.

Re: How can this strike be won?
The rolling type of dispute does maintain the system and actually reduces the amount of disruption to customers but at the same time also maintains publicity and an opportunity for arguments to develop. The all out strike is pretty awful for people taking part and having no end in sight is daunting for people with mouths to feed. At the same time employer are also in a position to starve workers back to work.
I am still concerned that the old tactic of insisting that staff sign a letter on their return giving an assurance that they will work 'normally' or be suspended, will be tried by RM. In the past this has resulted in strikes being purpetuated far longer than necessary because of the additional problems with any return to work agreement. In effect turning the rolling style of strike into a full blown one.
How can it be won? Among other things by getting public support firmly behind the posties and posties themselves getting out and about on their rounds to tell customers just what it is all about. Whatever the press might say the postie is still liked by most people and is quite able to spread the word.

I haven't, but I hope you're right. As much as I'd like to believe he's one of David Ickes' lizard shape-shiftersopgpat wrote:Have you seen him on TV today? Also heard him on radio and i thing he's given up already. He looks defeated, I think he's handed it over to the RM management already.
{and just to be clear, I am not a David Icke advocate!}

Indeed you are correct,the rolling strikes do work,the interview i see today from a UK Mail man,had him panicking a bit(TNT as well i guess)they love the fact they can take our bulk postings and sort them on their flash new state of the art machines,but the final mile delivery is beyond them,so their customers are being let down.We all know they are desperate to do the final mile delivery part as well,but they are not prepared to spend the money setting the function up,instead they are waiting in the wings for Royal Mail to be sold to either TNT or UK Mail,with the goverment promising to plug the hole in the pensions as a carrot.TrueBlueTerrier wrote:The rolling strikes worked for us and IMO will work again as we deal in 10s of millions items per day so not sure it would work in an office biased work force. However, anything that puts pressure on managers and ivory towers gets my vote.

Wouldn't make sense to bring out the delivery staff the day before the mail centre staff, which is not the way it's being done?disheartened wrote:Indeed you are correct,the rolling strikes do work,the interview i see today from a UK Mail man,had him panicking a bit(TNT as well i guess)they love the fact they can take our bulk postings and sort them on their flash new state of the art machines,but the final mile delivery is beyond them,so their customers are being let down.We all know they are desperate to do the final mile delivery part as well,but they are not prepared to spend the money setting the function up,instead they are waiting in the wings for Royal Mail to be sold to either TNT or UK Mail,with the goverment promising to plug the hole in the pensions as a carrot.

Re: Re:
From a DO posties view No because we would clear the work from our strike day whilst the MCs are out so impact to the pipeline would be minimal - however these split days with MDeC in between could be a winner.socialistneLDN wrote:Wouldn't make sense to bring out the delivery staff the day before the mail centre staff, which is not the way it's being done?disheartened wrote:Indeed you are correct,the rolling strikes do work,the interview i see today from a UK Mail man,had him panicking a bit(TNT as well i guess)they love the fact they can take our bulk postings and sort them on their flash new state of the art machines,but the final mile delivery is beyond them,so their customers are being let down.We all know they are desperate to do the final mile delivery part as well,but they are not prepared to spend the money setting the function up,instead they are waiting in the wings for Royal Mail to be sold to either TNT or UK Mail,with the goverment promising to plug the hole in the pensions as a carrot.

I agree a winning formula..MC out Thurs, Friday delivery not much to do due to no processing, Friday mail centres start to clear backlog, Saturday deliveries hammered no postiesTrueBlueTerrier wrote:From a DO posties view No because we would clear the work from our strike day whilst the MCs are out so impact to the pipeline would be minimal - however these split days with MDeC in between could be a winner.socialistneLDN wrote:Wouldn't make sense to bring out the delivery staff the day before the mail centre staff, which is not the way it's being done?disheartened wrote:Indeed you are correct,the rolling strikes do work,the interview i see today from a UK Mail man,had him panicking a bit(TNT as well i guess)they love the fact they can take our bulk postings and sort them on their flash new state of the art machines,but the final mile delivery is beyond them,so their customers are being let down.We all know they are desperate to do the final mile delivery part as well,but they are not prepared to spend the money setting the function up,instead they are waiting in the wings for Royal Mail to be sold to either TNT or UK Mail,with the goverment promising to plug the hole in the pensions as a carrot.

Re: Re:
....Monday massive cut offs, Tuesday more cut offs - basically those 3 days strikes will last a week at least. 3 or 4 of those in a row leading up to xmas and RM is in trouble, a trouble that 30,000 muppets stood outside smoking won't be able to fix.Bluebird wrote:I agree a winning formula..MC out Thurs, Friday delivery not much to do due to no processing, Friday mail centres start to clear backlog, Saturday deliveries hammered no postiesTrueBlueTerrier wrote:From a DO posties view No because we would clear the work from our strike day whilst the MCs are out so impact to the pipeline would be minimal - however these split days with MDeC in between could be a winner.socialistneLDN wrote:Wouldn't make sense to bring out the delivery staff the day before the mail centre staff, which is not the way it's being done?disheartened wrote:Indeed you are correct,the rolling strikes do work,the interview i see today from a UK Mail man,had him panicking a bit(TNT as well i guess)they love the fact they can take our bulk postings and sort them on their flash new state of the art machines,but the final mile delivery is beyond them,so their customers are being let down.We all know they are desperate to do the final mile delivery part as well,but they are not prepared to spend the money setting the function up,instead they are waiting in the wings for Royal Mail to be sold to either TNT or UK Mail,with the goverment promising to plug the hole in the pensions as a carrot.![]()
