Thanks for your comments.

Suffice to say that I have to keep my personal details private; due to any repercussions I may experience due to making my views available on a public forum. I really don't know what is (or isn't) contravened as I (in the same way other employees have) signed the Official Secrets Act. Suffice to say I would not state anything that knowingly put Royal Mail or our people in jeopardy.

Rest assured, everything I type is truthful and reflect my views. It's refreshing to have an outlet to get some issues off my chest; issues that I readily admit are not the viewpoint of some managerial colleagues!

If I can give any advice to anyone, at any time, then I'd be only too pleased to help. I know that the vast majority of us just want to do a decent days work and to provide our punters with the service that they rightfully expect and deserve.

Sincere best wishes to everyone on this board irrespective of whether they agree with my views, management style, etc. or not.
very well said manager1,i find your comments very refreshing indeed :Applause :Applause

Likewise, especially the part about not crossing picket lines :Applause :Applause

This company will survive because it has a dedicated workforce and the competition are still nowhere. They are already bleating about being overstretched and cutting off their computer sales programmes for fear of damaging relationships with existing customers. We need to keep the pressure on and eventually the stakeholder will turn in on these make a fast buck parasites, and then hopefully we can look forward to a new beginning with meaningful modernisation where a fresh management team can work alongside us dedicated people and provide a company that is fit for the future, which benefits all of us and not a few people who believe that modernisation is decimation of the workforce, twist the arm of the few who are silly enough to have their arms twisted to work like lemmins, to create a false profit that has no chance of being maintained. These people do not have the skills of true entrepreneurs, to get out in the marketplace and win new and profitable business. They expect it to fall into their laps. Instead of paying huge bonuses to these executive managers, who haven,t even the skills to make themselves look bright on t/v interviews, we should be bringing in top notch sales people, so that when we do get properly tooled up, the business has forward thinking individuals to create the wealth that will make this company successful again, and make the rewards for hard work favourable for everyone and provide a proper retirement for the many years of foot slogging a postie has to do throughout his or her working life.

Finally, I don't like being automatically branded as one of 'they are all the same' by some OPG's on forums that are ignorant
I like your latests posts fella but the tone of your first in this thread was definately patronising towards delivery Postal workers (boys/lads/ignorant OPG's) and it comes across as like a self-centred manager complaining about his poor pay and pension. I'm not saying that's you because what you've subsequently posted makes you sound decent but that's the way it came across. In terms of B&H what I said I've seen with my own eyes and it was sorted and the manager was also sorted but that doesn't mean it doesn't happen all the time and alot of posties put up with it daily. maybe not in your office but this is a big organisation with a s**t load of bad managers. bad as people not just as managers! To be honest I would not feel comfortable with a full-on manager calling me his boy and back-slapping me. Not saying that is wrong but you need to make sure you aren't as a boss peer-pressurising people into a type of interaction they wouldn't normally have.

Finally yes I can call myself an OPG but when an apparently patronising manager calls posties 'ignorant OPG's' to paraphrase you, that's not acceptable. It's the manner with which things are said that is the most important thing sometimes.

Thanks for being here and thanks for the support.

I have no time for this "my lads", "our people", "we're all on the same side and in this together" stuff which Royal Mail has been pushing for the last few years. I happen to work for Royal Mail because I have to work somewhere. It's just a job, no more, no less. I had a decent manager when I first started the job, but unfortunately he died in 1982. Previously when I worked as an upholsterer, I had a decent boss. That's two decent bosses in thirty nine years. I worked for three different furniture manufacturers and several building firms before Royal Mail and without a shadow of doubt, the worst managers (not that they're real managers by any stretch) are Royal Mail ones. As time goes on, the standard declines. What we now have is a set of bullies who are incapable of dealing with anyone properly. When it comes to lying, they would shame Ananias and Saphira. The worst of the bunch are 'acting managers'. Everyone knows these goons will always issue a stage warning regardless of mitigating cirumstances. It's their way of getting on!
I wouldn't socialise with any of them. We have nothing in common with each other. I would no more associate with any of the 'managers' in my office than I would with Nick Griffin. The bottom line is, I don't like class traitors and I especially dislike ones who live off the fruits of the labour of decent people.

manager1 joined this forum yesterday.... and although id love to believe you are for real
I suspect you will disappear off the radar never to be seen again.
strike periods are as attractive to posters,
as Halloween is to weirdos who like to wear masks .
I would have loved some insight... as to your inner turmoil as you are instructed to cut overtime,Do you feel guilty collapsing rounds,
or implementing Pegasus revisions etc.
if you haven't had those conflicts then you must be in some 5 frame rural office that by some miracle has been overlooked recently.
I'm a postman-and i know where you live.....

That doesn't mean I don't have the utmost respect for my boys at whatever office I've been a DOM previously - and that respect has always been mutual. I don't (and never have) bullied, harassed or patronised my lads nor asked them to do anything that I wasn't prepared to do myself. I have helped not only with work related problems but took time to assist with personal problems as well. I've gained respect and it's been earnt.

I also don't cross picket lines.......... purely upon principle.

I also don't like receiving intimidating communications telling me it's mandatory to cover operational work.

I also don't like people at the top, that basically don't know what the postal service means to it's customers or employees, getting fat cat wages when the rest of us don't get a pay rise and see our pension fund drained due to p*ss poor government investment.

Finally, I don't like being automatically branded as one of 'they are all the same' by some OPG's on forums that are ignorant enough to believe ALL managers fall within the aforementioned categories.

Not all managers are CMA/Unite Members but many of us that are sympathise with your dispute. We are not all the enemy - please treat each individual manager upon his/her merits - in the same way that some of us treat you.

:Applause :Applause :Applause :Applause :Applause .Very welcoming to see wished you were at our office. Thanks for your support :Very Happy :Very Happy

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

K979aaa Fair enough you are entitled to your view and as the saying goes, 'I may not agree with your view but I'd fight to my dying breath for you to have the right to voice it'.

Re-reading my posts they may appear patronising/too cuddly/not real World........people will make their own mind up. However, if you knew me as a person (and as a manager) you may, just may, change your view and realise the sincerity with which I've posted them.

That said, can I clarify something? Are you referring to ALL managers (including me) as 'class traitors'? I have been a socialist my entire life and, coming from a dockers family, can assure you that I have never considered myself anything other than working class. A lot of managers (not all) but a lot of the guys in my area that are managers are ex-postmen and don't have an axe to grind with anyone. I know tensions are particularly high at the moment and no doubt some people deserve criticism. My point is WE ARE NOT ALL THE SAME......it's wholly unfair to tar us ALL with the same brush.

As a Royal Manager put it to me "If we do what senior management want then in future they would say 'well the business needs did not suffer in your absence so we could do without so many mangers' so my job would be on the line". How is that for putting on the pressure on "supportiive people in the business".

Of course managers' jobs are on the line. If they take hours out of an office, they won't need as many managers. They're in the same boat as us posties, but they won't often admit it.

So come on you managers, let's see you out on the picket line. We'll save you an extra large sausage, straight from the barbie, just for you.
