Re: CWU press conference 5-15pm
I thought Dave Ward's speech was brilliant, told it like it is, we all knew these things had been going on, i e, Goverment, Mandleson and Crozier, now the public know, i bet all their PR people were running round like headless chickens trying to make them look credible,

Re: CWU press conference 5-15pm
As I see it in layman's terms, our union the CWU at their press conference announcement (Billy, Dave & Kevin) played an absolute blinder (CWU 1 - RM 0) later PT from RM makes spurious claims in a damage limitation exercise to save face (CWU 2 - RM 0 ) interested to listen to other posters views on how they interpret todays proceedings.novaswift wrote:Paul Tolhurst from RM just on Ch 4 news claiming its the Union who have refused to sanction last nights agreement Dave Ward described in the press conference. Dear Colleague
ROYAL MAIL DISPUTE: INDUSTRIAL ACTION
Further intensive talks took place with Royal Mail on Monday and Tuesday of this week, ending late last night.
Whilst progress was made in discussions we remain someway short of agreement. Furthermore, a letter from Royal Mail Managing Director Mark Higson received this morning undermines and contradicts the position of the Royal Mail negotiating team.
In the circumstances, the PEC has concluded that there is little real alternative other than to implement its previous decision and proceed with industrial action on Thursday and Friday of this week as previously notified.
Whilst we also need to plan for further action, it remains our position that the dispute can only be resolved by negotiation. We are therefore seeking further meetings with Royal Mail at the highest level and are restating the previous offer made to Mark Higson regarding third party mediation without pre-conditions, via ACAS.
Activity is also underway to organise a National Demonstration(s) as soon as practically possible.
Yours sincerely
Dave Ward
Deputy General Secretary (P)

Thanks for that bathboy
Sorry antcpfc but I am a postman(7 years) and like everyone else I'm fed up of being lied to by the arseholes who run RM. How a proven liar and theif who has been kicked out of govt twice in disgrace can have a say in my and your future is beyond me. We get lied to in our D.O's and from the top also.
How Tolhurst could openly lie is his shame but I have to say he did get an easy time on the news!

As I see it the original wording was o.k. to both sides until Higson wrote a letter that basically said something completely different. Is that about it?

antcpfc, Yeah it looks pretty simple, Dave Ward played a total blinder and they are trying to lie their way out of it. Nothing new I suppose but still makes ya mad

Not posted for a a good wee while, but I wonder if they released the form of words they were in agreement on with the letter the Press had in their press packs from Higson...If so tomorrow could prove extremely embarrassing for the two wonder dummies and the puppet master Mandlesob...If not it might be an idea to ahem leak it to the media ahem...See you all on the line in the morning

Re: CWU press conference 5-15pm
No agreement was reached last night. The so called agreement is a framework for further talks on the issues at the heart of the dispute. However progress was made on the re engagement on the areas where Royal Mail have taken executive action. Only for Mark Higson to send a letter to the CWU today stating the complete opposite. Hence the press conference and Dave"s well made point..
Further action next week and for you hard working delivery staff a nice rest on saturday !!!

Re: CWU press conference 5-15pm
That's what i meant "the form of words" they had some semblance of agreement on, before Higson torpedoed it. As Tolhurst has said they'd sign it without amendment...Which we all know means strings with strings....But it would be good to have people know what the framework was, and out in the open for when the likes of nits at the top try and doctor it and present it to the media.
