Possible Management Walkout?
Could Unite be ready call out its members?
Just wondering as ive heard on news that managers are refusing to do work that is under their grade and RM have begun to moan about it publicly.
Also Unite have written to Higson warning him not to force its members to do tasks theyre not contracted to do.
The plot thickens...

Re: Possible Management Walkout?
Cant really see Unite calling the managers out and even if they did the line managers and newly promotted younger managers will all have the threat of being de-motted back in to blues hanging over their heads,so they're gonna be reluctant to go on strike, but this unrest with the managers(if true)could place the ball a tad nearer to us scoring a goal
dont permissum bastards frendo vos down

Re: Possible Management Walkout?
I got this from Unite
19 October 2009
Mark Higson
Managing Director
Royal Mail
1st Floor, 35 – 50 Rathbone Place
London
W1T 1HQ
Dear Mr Higson
Instruction to Managers
I have been advised that you have to-day issued an instruction to managers to attend the operation for a minimum of 2 days per week during the official industrial action undertaken by the Communication Workers Union.
Unite deplores this action and is not currently in dispute with Royal Mail. It is inappropriate for our members' to be instructed to undertake work that is not proper to their grade and for which they are not contracted.
Accordingly, Unite must insist that this unreasonable instruction be withdrawn with immediate effect. Our members are of course obliged to work normally, which is in line with the advice we have given to members thus far.
To force our members into such an invidious position would be inappropriate and potentially dangerous. Royal Mail has a duty of care of its employees, now and in the future, and this unilateral action by Royal Mail undermines its responsibilities.
I am prepared to meet with you as a matter of urgency to discuss this but this instruction will have to be withdrawn before any meaningful dialogue can take place.
Yours sincerely
Paul Reuter
National Officer
I can't see it would go as far as IA but may well lead to CMA grades refusing to cover work they are not contracted for. I don't know why it has taken this long for him to become involved as a lot of us have been on compulsory 2 days a week OPG duties for over a month.

It would be great if they could grow a backbone.I don't think they realise, that if we lose this dispute, alot of them will be going under as well.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.
