ROYAL MAIL DISPUTE - AGENCY WORKERS


Branches will have seen the press reports of Royal Mail, using agency workers in an apparent attempt to break the forthcoming national strike. The Union, having consulted with Queen’s Counsel is preparing evidence to take Royal Mail to court.


Would branches please forward any information on the use of agency workers during the strike to the General Secretary’s Department by no later than 5.00 p.m. today – Tuesday 20th October. Any information obtain past that date will still be of value.

Let's hope they get some decent/enough evidence to stop RM in their tracks, the cynic in me though thinks this could be a blatant attempt by RM to weaken the unions bank balance :cfo

If the temp staff are going to be used on the days AFTER a strike, in order to clear the backlogs, they would not be directly replacing the workers on strike. In terms of the way this particular law is worded, Royal Mail would not therefore be breaking the letter of that law.

Unless you know a lot about employment law - ie employment law specialist, then i thinks you could be wrong. Already employment contract etc have commented RM will be breaking the law. Do we really expect these workers not to working on strike days.
I'm not sure of the act but i'm assuming it was created after the miners fiasco. But i'm not 100 hundred percent sure.

Some of the comments are quite "entertaining"...but do raise a good point...Have they really done a CRB check on all these fine people??? I always understood it took up to 6 weeks?
