Re: Don`t fall for it CWU !!
It is essential that if the CWU leadership withdraws the planned action on Thursday and Friday, then they keep the ballot live by having a minimal strike at a mutually agreed place or a token member out at each office for a short agreed period. Royal Mail have habitually stalled negotiations in order to gain advantage and if there is no sign of agreement by the end of October they have to be made to sit up and listen instead of playing games.
This no longer a game for us or our customers and it will take a bit of bloody mindedness on our unions part to get things resolved satisfactorily for all involved. We cannot leave that awesome responsibility to Royal Mail and even less so to our inept owners, the Government, because frankly they do not know the meaning of responsibility.
I see Royal Mail trying to string out the talks and dangling the involvement of ACAS in front of us until Christmas and then saying "Oh we're fed up with this situation - so do as you like and we'll just let it rot" That is not an option for us or our customers - get our foot on RM's neck now and don't take it off until they squeak.

how is that the attitude to have? we want the union and the RM to reach agreement, so talking is the only way thats going to happen.rhino49 wrote:It is essential that if the CWU leadership withdraws the planned action on Thursday and Friday, then they keep the ballot live by having a minimal strike at a mutually agreed place or a token member out at each office for a short agreed period. Re: Don`t fall for it CWU !!
The point is to talk while we strike, and not bend the knee to Royal Mail demands to stop striking and then they'll go to ACAS. They will walk out again when it suits them and the strike is demobilised, maybe after XMas, or a rotten deal will emerge. The signals are clear, they won't agree a decent deal and they dont want a deal at all.

"Just because someone has a different viewpoint or political position to you, it does not mean that they are a 'Manager' or a 'Union fanatic', any posts making such assumptions or generalisations will be pulled or amended and the poster warned."
so how is any dispute ended.... by negotiation. Isnt that what Billy has been calling for, for acas to get involved. would be a good thing if they were.

I have been reading the threads. How is it wrong to negotiate? Surely thats the objective of the strike? If it can achieve its aims without disruption to workers pay packets, career prospects, and without losing the royal mail a lot of business and so losing jobs, isnt everyone a winner?donut wrote:I see your quite new on here ....it would be a good idear for you to scan some of the threads for the facts...and educate yourself.so how is any dispute ended.... by negotiation. Re: Don`t fall for it CWU !!
ACAS single aim will be to force a deal. Any concessions out of us will damage the union permanently and be ten times as hard to claw back once they are in, while any concessions RM makes will be temporary ones they can easily undermine or get round, or in a few months once the strike threat is listed - after all they are the boss they have that kind of freedom and manouverability. The union's strength is based on the support of the workers and our willingness to stand up and fight, if the leaders cut a crap deal like in 2007 then it will weaken that. Imagine going through all that bitterness again and then having to try to get a strike going again, it will be much more difficult. Of course we should continue discussions, but we should strike at the same time. If Royal Mail says we are not serious then, union leaders should just go on national telly and explain how Royal Mail used and abused negotiations in 2007 - something we should never forget by the way. Let's apply the lessons of 2007 to this strike so we can win this time. Talk - and walk!

The union will never have a stronger position than it has now, we have to use that to our advantage. Its not a time to worry about the public, they do not know how manipulative the management at RM has become. this is s**t or bust for our union. The pressure from the government will come as christmas is on the horizon, Crozier (where is he btw?) and co will get desperate.
Hey, this is one battle we need to win, to go into the privatisation fight with the tories with a strong union to deter the private sector from getting its greedy hands on our profits, and preserve the uso for our country

Cant expect the company not to do anything in its power to continue to service its customer base.donut wrote:http://www.royalmailchat.co.uk/communit ... hp?id=1759" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;outandabout wrote:I have been reading the threads. I would have thought that they have run any actions through government, and seen whether or not they approve, from what has been said.
If youre going to have a fair and reasonable negotiation, it doesnt do for either side to have too much power.
The union workers are going to be free to dispute, and the Royal Mail, it seems obvious, will be given enough latitude by government to ensure that the dispute cannot overly disrupt the service.
Thats seems like a good thing to me. The less disruption to the service, the less the public will be alienated, and the more sympathy the postal workers are likely to get as they begin to suffer in their pay packets.
If the postal workers want the public on their side, they are better off looking like they are going to be martyred striking against abusive practices, they will get the sympathy you feel they deserve.
I think its vital that the union looks forward facing, and not just determined to save jobs in the face of modernisation. Every sector faces rationalisation. I do think there will be a lot of sympathy for stamping out unfair practices which many on these forums seem to be aggrieved about. Provided the union accepts modernisation it should be able to protect working conditions for its members.

another what?
I'm hoping the postal workers get some sympathy, and the public get to hear about some of these abusive practices that prople on here say are inflicted upon workers. Surely that is a good thing?
