Yep, I remember it well.
I was 16 and had just started on the counter the previous August. Luckily, I still lived at home so I could live off good old Mum and Dad. :Applause
Only had my Lambretta to pay for! :dance
Mind you, a lot of my colleagues suffered real hardship and it took them years to recuperate their losses.
From memory, it was pretty solid only one Branch Office was able to be opened in the area I worked using strike breakers and they were all kept at the one office afterwards because no one would work with them.
Here I am all these years later and nothing has changed, apart from being a Postie!! :nana

Before my time but when we went out in the late 80's some of the guys were still stinging from it. I think it was a tough hard call
Rows of houses all bearing down on me........I can feel their blue hands touching me.......All these things in all positions.........All these things will one day take control..........

i was there in my first year as a postie, pretty grim time but in our office in scotland we were 100% behind the union at the time.
i will celebrate 38 years in the union by striking on friday, the reasons for striking today are a million times more than 71.
