Brilliant . Let them do it. Take away the VAT let them operate on an equal footing with RM. Conditions of license - one price goes anywhere, USO, prices Capped ,next day delivery ,and you must provide a DSA facility. Since this lot are so efficient RM could send all its mail via TNT's DSA route and make so much profit they could lay us all off on full pay with a pension too :chuckle

that's what that "Ebay" Poster " giveemenoughrope " wants - " break the whole bloody company up & it's infrastructure and sell it to TNT / DHL " , it might be more expensive but at least it'll be reliable " - yeah like Home Delivery Service :chuckle - if they do find your house , they'll chuck the parcel over the hedge if you're lucky . :chuckle

Another possible resounding privatization success like the third world railways that are regarded as a joke in Europe , Utilities and the fat cats in charge like Water , Electric and Gas , an antiquated and expensive Broadband system through copper wires intended for phones which is light years behind Europe . :left:

The bigger picture needs to be widened and presented . Mandy is only looking after his mates in Europe , the likes of Higson et all are only interested in being head hunted for nice numbers with share options etc after a sell off , that's why they wanted a sweetheart CWU in 2007 and now .

The thing about the RM Year 8 level Power Point Document is what it doesn't say or is casually dismissed - These people would have sold their arses in Woolworth's window for a tenner .

TNT, Britain's largest private mail operator, is pressing ministers to allow it to put its own orange-clad postmen on the streets in a door-to-door service that would further undermine a threatened postal strike, which is due to start this week.

Today the Communication Workers Union reacted angrily to separate Royal Mail plans to hire 30,000 temporary staff to help deal with any strike backlog – threatening to take legal action against "inflammatory" strike-breaking plans.

But TNT, which had its busiest ever week in the run-up to the CWU strike decision, is pressing ministers to go one step further and enable it to offer a complete rival service including so-called "final mile" deliveries.

"If anyone can do it [offer a rival service], TNT can," said Nick Wells, chief executive of TNT Mail UK. "There are going to be operational challenges, we would be ridiculously naive to think otherwise. It's a massive challenge on a huge scale but the reality is we have the customers, appetite and resources," he told the Guardian. The Dutch-owned firm, which recently offered to buy an equity stake in Royal Mail, believes the bust-up will make policymakers acutely aware of the dangers of relying on a monopoly for final deliveries.

Ministers were sceptical about the offer tonight, indicating they were unlikely to make concessions to TNT. They do not believe the union will be weakened by rival letter delivery services, but by the loss of package delivery to rivals, such as DHL.

Like other rivals, TNT still uses the Royal Mail for the final mile of its postal network, but the company has already been experimenting with door-to-door letter deliveries in Liverpool after previous ones in Manchester and Glasgow using postmen in distinctive orange uniforms.

It has said before that it would like to roll out these services nationwide but Wells says those ambitions are being thwarted by an exclusivity contract with the Royal Mail that means it would have to pay a huge surcharge to the state-owned group under the existing penalty clause contained within the last mile contract.

The private operators are also being hampered by the need of customers to pay VAT on their deliveries – unlike Royal Mail stamps which are exempted.

"The regulatory barriers must be removed," :no no :no no :no no said Wells. He said trials in Liverpool had gone well, but it would be no easy undertaking to offer a rival service able to match the Royal Mail's.

As for the far left - I'm not BUT ! as somebody once said - " You start worrying when you find yourself agreeing with Vanessa Redgrave " . A lot of stuff doesn't need stirring up by the SWP :hmmmm .

As Belail said it was a badly presented PP , it was all over the place and too detailed / too buzz wordy in parts .

Nah let them, tell you what they can deliver first though. The names, addresses, date's of birth of children, bank accounts etc of half the country. THEN LOSE THEM!

Oh how the public forgets! :no no

It's a brave lad who would walk around certain areas of Liverpool and Glasgow dressed in orange!
