Adam Crozier writes for the News of the World

Post by Pat Ostman »

THE CWU's strikes are shocking news for all our customers. As Lord Mandelson said, they amount to industrial suicide, particularly in a company like Royal Mail which has to modernise and become more efficient if it is to survive.

Text and email mean we send 10 million fewer letters daily than just three years ago. So we have no choice but to modernise. In every UK industry, people put up with pay freezes, pay cuts and unpaid leave to protect jobs.
Blood boiling yet? Love the comments though!
Won't take long before you upset the new 30,000 staff and have to recruit more. That might explain why the great royal mail as you put it has the highest turnover of staff in this country, Can you explain that one Adam?
By Dave Eaton. Posted October 19 2009 at 5:36 AM.

People over the country have had to put up with pay freezes have they? Bit rich coming from a man with 10 million pounds in bonuses without a pay freeze since you started. Your attitude makes me sick, I can see where the posties are coming from now, thankyou.

If Royal Mail are for all things 'modern', how do they explain shutting down a bunch of useful websites the other week?

Modernisation - p/t workers running around like headless chickens to do a quarter of a walk then rushing back to do a full walk. How long before injuries and stress take their toll on these hardworking people, but as joe public has pointed out there will be plenty willing to take the vacancy when they have burnt themselves out.

So what does "modernaisation" mean?

Is it bringing in machines which are supposed to save us 20mins each by sortingmost of the mail for us, but in fact sort less than 30% and save us 5mins?
Is it giving duties that already require ovetime to complete extra work because these machine will save us less time than the overtime already required?
Is it changing the times of mail deliveries to the Delivery Offices, meaning less drivers required, but making deliveries later?
Is it having managers say that more hours are required in Delivery Offices but refusing to recruit and expecting staff to cover on overtime?

Because that is what is happing

Perhaps if Crozier and all the other over-paid managerial staff actually got out and did a postman's job for a week, they may have a different view.

The only thing that is destroying Royal Mail Mr Crozier, is your endless slash and burn attitude, huge salary and even bigger bonuses. Your culture is a management first and workers last system. The Royal Mail was o.k before you and Leighton came along.
By G O Root. Posted October 18 2009 at 4:54 PM.

Why don’t you consider a pay cut to help the business through the difficult time Mr Crozier? Work the hours you are paid, this coming from you is a bit rich

Run, rabbit run. Dig that hole, forget the sun.
And when at last the work is done. Don't sit down, it's time to dig another one

Quote from Adam Crozier in the News of the World:

"In every UK industry, people put up with pay freezes, pay cuts and unpaid leave to protect jobs"..............but not YOU Adam. You'll still collect your 30 pieces of silver though, won't you?

Which is why 60,000 jobs have gone in the past 5 years with a further 60,000 to go.

For Gods sake...someone start a revolution so we can be rid of these evil doers.

You are right and that Crozier has no leg to stand on.

However, if you look at their 08/09 accounts, which are publically available you will see that Croziers bonus is made up of 70% financial performance and 30% quality performance. This means that if they reach whatever their agreed financial targets are he will achieve his bonus. This is all legal and signed off. This will then drive his decisions during the year.

It is clear in my mind that the government have wanted to partially or wholly privatise Royal Mail since Leighton stepped in. I base this on the type of senior management who have joined and that they are in favour of this approach. This belief then drives strategy. And that strategy is to get the company into shape to sell off. This includes the transformation of all operations and the splitting up of the businesses.

For those who do not know the head off ice is now a tiny (relative to the overall) part of the business. Many roles are now in seperate head offices for each of the businesses. So for example the Letters head office is in Rathbone Place. This means that The Letters business could be privatised and yet the Post Office could remain purely in public hands.

To make the company attractive enough to sell off it needs to be seen to be a profitable company and worth buying. Unsurprisingly it made £321 profit last year just when they asked other companies to come and buy the letters business. Convenient eh?

The morally correct thing for Crozier to do in the current economic climate is take a massive pay cut. Unfortunately those at the top in these times rarely do as they say

On paper it was that German Banking Headhunting team that recruited the likes of Leighton for Brown's Stakeholder Executive , they were tasked with increasing the value of part owned / wholly owned Government companies but Stephen Byers of the DTI had " influence " in appointing him for his " Walmart union " avoidance " experience " & his " new wave management style " as the CWU would be a obstacle to split ups for Privatization .

As soon as I read that in " Private Eye " - I cancelled my Labour Party membership and my political levy contribution , it was like paying the hangman a extra schilling to despatch me quicker to eternity .

The problem with Crozier is his arrogance and that filters it's way down the food chain as normally he keeps his head down as he knows he'll be slated over his salary & bonuses .

The Premiership Chairmen & Managers ganged up on him when he was at the FA , demanding his head as they didn't like his attitude . The big wigs at the FA didn't raise a finger to stop it for some reason :Very Happy .

That's been clear to quite a few of us here for some time now.

Interesting info, thanks.

True. I just wish someone in the mainstream media could pin-down Crozier and put some of these points to him - I'm not holding my breath though.

I bet they don't add my response to the list there either.. it may be a bit long for them and too much information for the people who read that "rag" of a Murdoch news-sheet (did I spell that right? heheheh) but they do tend to look down on some people and treat some people like mindless sheep at times... or is that Murdochs aim?
I've a good mind to post my response on here.. but I'd be "preaching to the converted" so to speak. If they (NOTW) do post it I bet it's edited down.
