What a missed oppurtunity
...... My day off today and just watched the head of something or other for RM, probably paid a telephone number for a wage open the door to our Bill, as when asked 3 times by the interviewer would not answer if RM would go to ACAS before thurs to avert the strike, ending in the interviewer saying we will take that as a NO then......Enter our Billy interviewed by Bill Turnbull, for me he gave a incompetent, childlike performance, when we needed a competent, confident and factual display exploiting the fact RM will not use independant help to solve this pottentially damaging dispute regarding their unachevable and totaly destructive unfair demands.....He mearly touched on the core issues surounding the dispute, took no control over the interview when the opportunity was deffinatally there to put our side to the public..... The final failure came when he was asked if he would call off the dispute if RM would go to ACAS he evaided the question like RM
.....It is evedent to me RM have NO intention of going to ACAS of their own free will even after being asked to do so by Mandelson hence a MASSIVE opportunity to portray to the public we are the ones being reasonable here
and wanting to avert a damaging dispute, people would have been thinking well what has RM got to hide??, even if he was unable to get our side of the story across......Now i think our unit reps and 99% of our area reps do a brilliant job for little or the mainly no re-numaration for their time or efforts (this should change IMHO distribute our union subs to the grass roots as well as top officials),but paying someone what is rumoured to be just shy of £100,000 we want value for money
and i honestly believe i could have put our side across much better than Bill Hayes did who seemed more interested in cracking jokes about Bill Turnbull's exploits on strictly come dancing
...... If your not up to the job Bill get out and let someone take over who is!!!!!!
. Firstly don't be sure they will blink first, if RM folded tomorrow it wouldn't bother Crozier & co and their fortunes would be intact as they moved onto the next position. Secondly don't take the support of all CWU members for granted i think unlike us some have voted for IA in the hope it won't come to it!!! and as the dispute drags on will cross the line and there ain't too much we can do to stop them without getting the sack!!!......Everyone will come out of the strike with a bloody nose (don't thinki'm worried about striking caus i am 100% behind the union and the cause) so if it can be settled on our terms let's do it i say.
