Re: beginning of the end?
Royal Mail will say they don't owe us anything. The Labour government will say they don't owe us anything. The vast hordes of ignoramuses who make up the "great british public" will say they don't owe us anything.
It's up to postal workers all over the country to say to themselves, "I owe it to myself, to fight tooth and nail for the right to be treated with some dignity and respect, and not to mention fairness. I owe it to myself, to fight with every ounce of grit and determination that I can muster, to ensure that a management intent on bullying and harassing me in order to achieve impossibly ludicrous targets/pie-in-the-sky schemes, falls flat on it's face for the whole nation to see.
Finally, I owe it to myself, to ensure that in the decades to come, when somebody, maybe my grandchildren, ask me, "what did you do during the postal strike of 2009 when you were one of the last of the old-style traditional postmen?" I will be able to hold my head up, and say truthfully to them, "I stood on the line, and did what little I could to defend a time-honoured institution from the wreckers."

30,000 casuals
Come on with all seen the numpties we get sent from agencies
I doubt if 20% will be any good at all. The rest will stand around the coffee machine dragging their heals most of the day. The ones who bother to go out on a delivery will do a couple of hours and give up and come back. What a joke.
Also they wont be able to give them packets because of the fear of theft. Its going to be a PR disaster for RM.
Bring it on

What a numpty. Anyone who is an employee should expect, in exchange for their wages, to be told what to do. That is the role of an employee, you klutzI can just imagine the overwhelming majority of people watching that show laughing at a union leader complaining that his members are being told what to do. He makes it sound like we expect to turn up and do whatever we like, with no directing or interfering by management.
My son works in McDonalds. If he normally serves on the counter, and he is asked to instead go fry the chips, as long as he has had the proper training, what do you think would happen if he refused and complained that he was 'being told what to do' ??
Get a grip, Hayes![]()
You're not just embarrassing yourself, you're making all of us look stupid !!!!!
100% right! I seen 'our leader' this morning and I thought 'Don't tell them we don't like been told what to do! Tell them we don't like to be told to do something that is impossible! i.e. Like trying to do 9 hours work in 8 hours!' Billy really did not sell himself or the Union's cause very well at all today on the Andrew Marr show. This is the guy we hope can lead us into battle?! He can't even put over our arguement acrossto the media!

DH, there's a time to fight, and there's a time to recognise that times move on and some 'victories' can only come at huge cost.

SPOT ON, for the first time in weeks, you can really see the media focussing their attentions on RM Management and the Government, rather than the union or us posties. Even the guy who was on Sky with Billy Hayes this morning from the federation of small businesses firmly put the blame on RM and Government. Billy may be a clot when it comes to being media savvy, but the guy is playing a blinder at the moment!chelmsfordpostie wrote:Why so much negativity ?, for the first time since the dispute started i feel confident we can win. This is the time to fight. Times may move on, but until I can forsee a time when postmen/women on delivery is a thing of the past, I will always fight to be treated with some fairness, some decency, and some respect. As it is, I can still see my letterbox being of some use in the coming decades.headscrewedon wrote:

I agree!
Why is everyone scared of the fight ahead?
Okay nobody can afford to loose money.
But, what other action was open to us?
Royal Mail, think it is right to treat everone as slaves and bully and dictate to us all the time.
Ask yourself this, do they have the right to break every Agreement in the book?
They treat us with contempt and expect us to stand back and do nothing while they change our hours; conditions of employment;working environment and power of the CWU[are we not the union?];they are even that petty, they stop people having a smoke/coffee in the morning.
I remember when you had a laugh and a joke with colleagues on the IPS and the craic was great.
Now, you are so intimidated by Managers that people are afraid to talk to each other or even,go to the toilet.
Line Managers, stand at the end of the sorting frames staring and blatently intimidating people. As well as constantly ips testing the same people over and over again.
The atmosphere is terrible and that is why morale is at an all time low.
RM treat the workfore with no dignaty or respect.
Is this how you want to see the future for yourselves and colleagues?
Remember we are fighting for the future of the CWU [our union!];Full Time employment; A Fair Workload for all[Pegasus is it fair?];an end to the Pension Black Hole and the inprovement of OUR working conditions/environment.
IS THIS NOT WORTH FIGHTING FOR????????????

We were also fighting for the CWU in 2007. A few pieces of silver flashed our way and the worse two years in working for Royal Mail followed. My faith in the Union is dwindling.

Re: beginning of the end?
I did 3 months agency, all Royal Mail work, before I got my job and believe me 30,000 agency staff will do well to get the work of 5000 decent posties done. I went there after my redundancy money from my previous job ran out and along with another chap, who's now employed in the same office as me, worked hard to secure a contract with RM, the vast majority of the rest were employed by the agency because nobody else would have them, 2 weeks of these clowns misdelivering and stealing the mail could win the battle for us, glass half full and all that.
News just in............British Waterways have begun erecting a series of "envelope filters" along the length of the Grand Union Canal for the whole of it's course through Milton Keynes.

30,000 casuals, good i hope we get some in Delivery to cope with the cut offs.
I lot of the problems in RM are caused by staff, the mass working of overtime, working from cars, staring early, not having a break - are all levers for RM to make cost cutting very, very easy. I'm not saying staff are 100% to blame, they are not but they have played a part in this!
After having an argument with a part timer on why he isn't full time and NEVER will be i explained that the fact is, too many part timers are doing overtime so there is no need for RM to increase your hours, why should they? they are getting the job done, end of. I know its a chicken and egg situation but this is fact!
