Letters: Back our vital services or you could be next

THE Government and those who run industry want us all to pay for their bail out of the banks by accepting job and pay cuts and the slashing of public services.
The post workers are among their first targets but if they get away with it, who will be next?
Our public services are absolutely vital and should never be put into the market place. Once in the market place, profit becomes more important than need and all too often the reality is that the quality of the service is reduced; to say nothing of what happens to the workers themselves.
Post workers are in favour of modernisation and greater efficiency, but this never seems to be for the workers’ benefitŠ – it usually means working twice as hard for less pay and with less secure contracts.
The Royal Mail bosses in the meantime are doing very well, awarding themselves handouts from the £321 million the Royal Mail made last year.
Next week’s strike is crucial for all of us and it’s important that we stand behind the post workers.
This is a call for support to all workers, students and pensioners wherever you are. Please do all you can to get to the picket line at the main post office in Huddersfield next Friday.
