apparently you can park a Royal Mail van anywhere as long as you are delivering from it (exceptions being zebra/pelican crossings or yellow box junctions) red or yellow lines either double or single are allowed.....you may still be given a ticket by an over zealous traffic enforcement officer (future R.M manager)but they are cancelled as the Royal part of the company insisgnia overides the ticket

nope,nope nope
not in Edinburgh anyway.
we used to get away with it but our council is going parking mad as a way to get extra revenue so we get ticketed in resisdent permit zones

You would use a High capacity trolley.

later starts/finishes gives value to guranteed before products and timed deliveries

So it is only business bosses at Royal Mail want these changes.

So why the workers and public who receive mail wish are ignored. If the post need to be collected at 8pm to
arrive at mail centre at 12pm and leave for sorting office for delivery office say 8.30am this case

Either change the system to make sure it leave for sorting office at 6.00am for example.

or get faster machine or more machine to sort the mail.

This method happens in Edinburgh, prepare for parking fines. Oh, you have to pay it.

My manager said and I quote "The public don t count now. Its the corporate that matters. Forget that idea".

But let me say, my post was intended to show what is going to happen once there is agreement between union and management. Forget about the parking issues, those will use the new electric trolleys. What RM are saying is that we are blocking all this investment but obviously they are hiding behind the tag of modernisation. They want an 'efficient' service, low numbers of employees, they will see these new 'vans' as a new fleet, then they will get Mandelson to go out and get a buyer. The union know it and that's why they persist in fighting this on the title of "pay and modernisation", while we all know its going to affect service and ultimately jobs. :mfo :cfo

The idea of using vans (in principle) is not a bad idea - I'd sooner get a lift back to the office than walk back 4 miles as I have too currently.
RM would need to get a new licence agreement to change the letter delivery times from 2pm city / 3pm rural before offering a later delivery time (similar to other European countries).

Customers will have no choice but too accept even later times - posties will be the ones on the front line taking the flack for it though.

IF Royal Mail can change the licence for later deliveries then they could change the licence to a Monday - Friday delivery - question is: will they?

not all walks are equal some walks do not have the same amount of packets & recordeds/specials as other walks would they make allowances for that ... i very much doubt it that and the fact that our walks take 4 - 5 hours to complete depending on the mail volumes
