Data Entry Keyer Job

Post by FellChair »

Hi all!

My partner has just applied for a Christmas casual job as a data entry keyer (via an agency) and has her 'assessment' soon. She's not really been able to find any details about what the job entails, what the assessment will be like or any general info.

If anyone can shed any light I'd be most grateful! :Very Happy

Thank you!!

The word "professional" might not be the best choice of word there.

Anyway, your partner will pick up the position quickly - there's not a lot too it as long as he/she can type reasonably well and can move a mouse about.

Having good geographical knowledge can help, but that's not particulary important.

They shouldn't have any worries.

Hi I'm new here and would just like to ask a few questions if you don't mind. I recently applied for a MDEC Temporary Christmas job at royal mail in Stoke, I have since received an e-mail from them with a scheduled 'Royal Mail Assessment' for the 20th of this month at 10.20am. Could anyone here with past experience describe to me what the recruitment process involves? Does it require a one to one interview and then various tests to determine your capability, or is it as slack as I've heard from various other people that tell me that as long as you turn up with the correct documents, the job is yours?

Does it matter that Ive been unemployed for a few months after finishing college? If anyone here could shed as much light as possible on this process thereafter, I would be very grateful. :wave

If you have two arms with hands, and are fairly quick and accurate at typing, you're already in with a good shot. The fact that you have gone through college is probably all the evidence they need that you are capable.

The interviews are very slack, so I wouldn't worry about it too much.

As for the unemployment, given the current recession, a lot of student-leavers are in the same boat, so I would'nt say it's much of a disadvantage.

Thanks for the reply! I was told that i need to take with me quite a few documents, one of which is the details of 2 referees for previous work. Is this a vital process for the assessment as i have only had minor work experience before, and cant really remember the names and contact numbers. I have put the contact details of 2 lecturers i had at college, is this sufficient and will they actually send for a written reference? Thanks!

I don't think references would be a problem. A lot of MDEC keyers take this as their first job after college, etc. and so don't have employment references.

If Stoke MDEC were tight with reference, etc. not many people would be working here.
