Postal strike is an act of desperation (guardian)
As usual they emphasise the effects of strike action, not its causes. In the case of the postal workers the causes are simple, and they are experienced daily by the ordinary, hard-working people who deliver our mail.
There's ever-increasing pressure to work faster and harder, belligerent managers demanding more work in less hours. There are worries over job security – 40,000 Royal Mail jobs have been lost in the last two years.

brilliant article and thanks should go to Mr Lazenby for writing it
.

Lazenby was on sky in a debate with some total arse from the CBI or similar a couple of days ago.He knows his stuff and absolutely wiped the floor with the idiot.Perhaps the union should pay him a retainer.

postal customer
you have no idea, what absolute drivel

does contunuing modernisation include being bullied harassed and victimised daily if you cannot complete the near impossible rounds we are being set?
Having our pay docked??
Threatened with conduct cases if we dont " obey"
Thats not a modern royal mail in my name
We will strike until we win

modern technology is really working,20 years ago we had letters posted in aberdeen and delivered in plymouth the next day by 9.30 now with the machines playing there part we dont deliver the mail till 2.00 and probably later in the future and this is modernisation stevie wonder could see that this is no improvement.Postal_Customer wrote:Dirty Harry,
Then please explain.
As a customer I have no problem with new technology being implemented even if that means job cuts.
Continuing modernisation is essential.

...Postal_Customer wrote:explain to me why the cost of stamps should be inflated by people being be paid for doing nothing?
maybe before you start blaming the postal staff you should relise that we have a chief executive who is paid over a million pounds a year with over inflated bonuses that runs into the 100 of thousands of pounds,,,,thats the reason the price of your stamp is rising every year

Re: Postal strike is an act of desperation (guardian)
I think you should do a bit more research... I'm a rural postman, i've got 225 stops and i travel 80ish miles a day. Rain, sun, thunder, sixfoot drifts of snow, up the worst roads in the uk... Even the moon buggie would have problems with the big holes on some of my farm tracks.. Somedays you have to drive jenson button even to get finished on time... With modernisation comming in, my rural customers are goings to be hit the worst!!! These new machines will take longer to sort the mail, so this means that i will start later and finish later and i think my customers will get there mail about 2 hours later than they do now?? Is this the way forward???? By the way, royal mail say's that farms are not a business but a home...

work way and above the call of duty in ways the Public do not understand.And--yes, the treatment they receive from their
Employers is beyond belief.how I wish every detractor could come and work ingognito for a few weeks, and only then would they understand what a Posties life is really like! Even Policemen who have taken early retirement ,take on a job here and have walked out even before Delivery starts because they can't manage.!
we know the truth, and that's all that matters.

You mean like the value for money get from all the other industries that have been privatised? For the record, the Royal Mail has the cheapest service in any case, so what is your point?Postal_Customer wrote:mdlmrk wrote:Postal_Customer wrote: Once the service is modernised, then we can look harder at getting value for money from management and cutting excessive salaries, but currently, management pay is worth it if we get a modern postal service.
Clearly you have been given some information regarding one postman and you then apply that to everyone. Well let me tell you, you are WRONG!! I have no issue with you having your say but you have clearly come here to irritate and antagonize people at a time which is very worrying for them. I can assure you that the majority of us want to see a successful thriving royal mail with a great future for ourselves and our customers. I worked in the private sector for twenty years before joining RM so i am well qualified to make judgements on what is and is not fair and at the moment RM staff on the whole get poorly treated.
If you wish to come and take part please get your facts right first!!
we're all doomed!!

I dont want to see the Royal Mail privatised, but if thats the only way to make it efficient, then thats the way it will go.
Sounds like a RM Manager to me????
