Anger as Royal Mail cancels anti-bullying week

With management bullying at near epidemic proportions—and a major factor behind the recent 3 to 1 strike vote—you might think that Royal Mail would want to improve relations with its workers.
But this week the firm announced that it is cancelling its annual anti-bullying week, which was due to take place next month.
A delivery worker in north London, told Socialist Worker that he wasn’t surprised by the move.
“It’s typical Royal Mail hypocrisy,” he said.
“Managers here are always trying to bully people into unpaid overtime. If you fail to complete your delivery within your hours they call you into their office.
“Often they threaten you with ‘wilful delay of the mail’, which is a sackable offence.
“Some of these managers enjoy the power trip, others are clearly being pushed to be more aggressive by other managers further up the chain. Either way the company is responsible.”
Socialist Worker rang Terry Deegan, the head of Royal Mail’s anti-bullying group to ask him why the company was cancelling its initiative.
Terry felt unable to comment. We do hope that his superiors are not pressurising him into silence.

Surely not ? That would be bullying, and that never goes on in Royal Mail :left:
