Junk Mail chaps feel for us.

Post by NEWS »

Direct mail printers have reacted with some sympathy to Royal Mail's calls for a radical review of postal market regulation.

The proposals would mean an increase of 6p in first and second class stamp prices, but an end to the organisation's obligation to deliver franked mail, including DM, to any address in the UK.

Royal Mail chief executive Adam Crozier said that because business customers have more choice in the market, they would not "want to fund stamped mail".

He has proposed that business mail services should be fully deregulated because "competition has now replaced the need for regulatory constraints".

DPS Direct Mail technical director David Laybourne said: "Royal Mail needs to create revenue and be free from the regulations. No one wants prices to go up, but they are cheaper than postal services in other countries."

Howard Hunt Group marketing director Lucy Edwards said: "Royal Mail should realign its service to compete in the direct mail sector."
