When I read 'On 27 November 1970, workers gathered outside Waterloo Bridge House to protest at the sacking of Lord Hall who had been removed from his post by the Home Secretary Lord Windlesham' I was gobsmacked. Union members walked out because Royal Mail's top man got sacked ?

I hope Lord Mandelson, isn't thinking about sacking Crozier.

There are thousands of us waiting to walk out if he does.

When I joined in 1975 our Head Postmaster would make a point of asking permission from the PEB to come onto the SO floor in order to meet as many of the new staff as he could. That's with over 200 staff and a turnover at the time of around 30 people a week

It was a totally different culture when managers had done their time, knew most jobs well and most important were able to motivate their staff by being at least fairly respected.

Remember the Union collections even for managers retiring? Not since around 1985 have I heard of that happening.
