Anger in Unite at union members who scab on post strike

http://www.socialistworker.co.uk/art.php?id=19281

Anger continues to grow inside the Unite union at the role of Royal Mail managers in attempting to break the post strikes.

Many of the managers volunteering to cross the picket lines and deliver mail are members of the Communication Managers Association (CMA), which is part of Unite.

Activists in Unite have produced a strongly worded motion that backs the postal workers’ strike and calls on Unite’s national executive to expel CMA members who are scabbing.

A senior Unite rep told Socialist Worker, “The motion has been circulated throughout the United Left group in the union and has raised a debate.

“People were horrified to discover that there are union members volunteering to scab on a dispute and that the Unite leadership seems to be doing nothing about it.

“Many believe that it should not be tolerated. The National Shop Stewards Network sent the motion out to its supporters.

“The United Left has said that it is prepared to back a statement in support of the postal workers, which also condemns the scabbing.

“After postal workers protested over the behaviour of CMA-Unite members at the union’s headquarters, Unite leaders told officials from the CWU postal workers' union that they were very concerned about this and would investigate.

“The motion will help them turn their words into action.

“Unite activists are also urging members to show practical solidarity by organising collections in our workplaces and then taking the money to picket lines.

“This will show that rank and file members are backing the postal workers—not the strike breakers.”

OK, I'll bite for one last time. I meant (and said if you read my email), I'm a manager and as a manager the Royal Mail see fit to pay me a certain amount which is more than a postmans salary and, as a manager, I am also entitled to a bonus which is a percentage of my salary. Note I said Royal Mail, I don't set my salary or my bonus, the business does that based on the business performance. If you were a senior manager, you would be similarly recompensed.

spoken like a true manager, plenty of words but no answers, the question was, What do you do that makes you worth more than me? And please dont post in forum debates and then pretend we are all boring and stupid when we dont agree with you, which in fact is just the response i get from my manager when i question his decisions

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

Please remember everyone is welcome on this site. Customers, CWU Officers, Royal Mail Managers, all Royal Mail employees, the General Public, the press, and even MPs, so please do not resort to abuse if people of a different political persuasion or viewpoint to you, post on a thread.

I am getting fed up of people ignoring the rules and I will now start handing out warnings and bans if I and POSTMAN think its warranted.
We're under enough pressure as it is 'the RMC team',take notice of what teebs says please!

ronnie6 the comments you are getting on this forum are from people who have seen/experienced the harrassment and bullying from lower management and above on a daily basis. when an order comes down from above to do the impossible the dom will do his utmost to impliment it. they are frightened of their cushy number ending and trot out the usual, i'm only following orders. i've seen and been a victim of it on numerous occasions. i have no problem with authority. this is the worst company i have seen in my 33 year working career. doms have had cases proven against them. what happens ? they are moved to another office where they do exactly the same again and then get promoted. they haven't got a pair between them, if they behaved the same way in a pub they would be waking up months later after extensive reconstructive surgery. the worst part is some of these bullys enjoy upsetting people. these people are everything with their position of authority and nothing without it. respect is a two way street. out of 12 doms i have experience of i can only say 1 was fair and honest, i have been cheated, lied to [repeatedly] harrassed and bullied. i do a 4hr walk, i don't get 4hrs to do it but am expected to absorb as well, how ? perhaps it's not the same where you work and you are a fair boss but you are in the minority from what i have seen.
apologies for the ramble

Ok, so you're not in Ops. you are probably far removed from day-to-day life on the front line, so let me explain. This "mistrust and bad feeling" didn't just appear out of nowhere. We have learned the hard way never to trust managers. Goodwill on our part as been taken advantage of by your management colleagues and used against us. We have been, and continue to be, lied to, belittled, bullied, harrassed and set against each other.
When I joined this company a number of years ago, things were different. It was a good job and managers were, on the whole regarded as colleagues. Sure, they were further up the ladder, but there wasn't the acrimonious 'us and them' attitude that now prevails. Or at least, not to the same degree. But time after time, we have had the dirty done on us. We have been betrayed, used and abused too often for it to be any other way. We have learned, for sheer self-preservation if nothing else, to regard you* as the enemy. For that is what you have become.

*I am referring to the collective 'you' here, not the personal 'you'.

No reply to my post of yesterday it seems. So, Ronnie, You're out of touch with front line life, you come on here to see what's up and you're genuinely shocked at the level of "mistrust and bad feeling" towards managers. But instead of accepting that your fellow managers are to blame, you decide it's all the fault of those nasty postmen and say ...
I'm trying to empathise but if this is the way you respond then I'll leave you to it.
In short, Ronnie, you are opting to become part of the problem rather than part of the solution.
