A challenge to all real journalists out there!

Many on this forum have been disappointed by poor standards of journalism
lately exhibited in newspapers in regard to postal issues.
Instead of interviewing postman "journalists" farm posts from the Internet,
the word lazy comes to mind,
Its less the "cut and thrust" of an argument, more the "like the cut and paste".
I have a number issues which you could research

1: What have RM spent their £600 million investment on?
2: How far does a postman walk?
( I suggest in-the-field research, follow a postman on delivery, take a pedometer and a good pair of shoes.)
3: RM managements bonus culture and its part in this dispute.....
other members may have more suggestions.

Research what a postie actually does in the office BEFORE going anywhere near a delivery. Too many people seem to think we pick up a bag of mail and walk straight out on delivery.

As a hard working postman for many years to save the lazy journalists here is the fact's!.
1 Every government took £250 million £ OUT of the royalmail/post-office since 1987 to 2000 FACT!.
2 The royalmail did take a pension holiday for over ten years between 1993-2003 FACT!.
3 GORDON BROWN the then chancellor in 1997 introduced FRS-17 Accounting procedures which attacked all pensions in the public or private sector FACT!
4 The failed FA CEO :cfo is appointed as master and savour of royalmail of which he becomes the highest paid public servant of the land while his staff are amongst the lowest paid!. FACT!
5 THE SERVICE FROM ROYALMAIL IS 2nd CLASS!. BUT WHAT DO YOU GET WITH 50000 LESS POSTMEN DOING THEIR JOBS AS WELL AS THEIR OWN!.
6 WHY are we the only major nation in Europe who jumped in head first while others France Germany and even the dutch and don't believe the hype of their deregulated system for it is a sham they earn their profit of the hard working UK postman's backs!.
7 The future deliveries at 7pm or even 8pm or every other day or once a week or even every two weeks with less and less staff the time is up for the USO (Universal Service Obligation)
8 THIS IS NOT ABOUT PAY IT IS ABOUT SERVICE RESPECT FROM THE SENIOR/JUNIOR MANAGEMENT AND JOBS/AND YOUR SERVICE!.

this is an excellent post. Watched sky news today and they were interviewing soldiers in Afghanistan about them not getting there mail due to the strikes and one guy saying they want to try working over here for 6 months.Believe me I support you 100% but don't blame us, blame Royal Mail. It just made me feel sh*t so thank you "Journo's"

It is not down to us the RUNDOWN of the service we provide but too the few with BIG MASSIVE BONUSES THE HIGHEST PAID PUBLIC SERVANT :cfo IN THE LAND EVERY POSTIE HE GETS RID OF UNDER HIS EDICT EARNS HIM MORE!.

Its typically divisive to set us up as those who don't support our troops!
I remember being very angry recently when RM said it was thinking of making cost cutting changes to the armed forces services
forwarding/redirections service or (BFPO) as we know it.
I work with many ex soldier postman, interestingly they are more common amongst the senior postman.
I think it goes back to a time when the job was still respected, the uniform was worn with pride there was discipline and belief in sticking to procedures (not cutting corners at any cost) the much earlier starts and the outdoor fitness etc would all have sat comfortably with ex service men.
now RM are looking to recruit only part timers and the job has changed beyond recognition.

theres humour/ irony everywhere you look nowadays.
questions about our mandate from a government elected by only 1 in 5 (only 22% of electorate voted labour 2005).
75% of those balloted voted yes. approx 50% of all postman .

Why often is the increase in email cited as our greatest threat? as its not something we can do much about, and yet
we deliver 99% of all letters so no competition there .
therefore.. we are only facing competition from parcel carriers.
and think about it! are people e-mailing their packets? they always use the growth of the Internet as a stick to beat us (with as above)

NO newspaper article I've read recently has disclosed these facts either:

10 years ago the postie delivered 2 bags per day over 2 deliveries. Today the average is 6-8 bags per day in one go meaning workload has literally and actually trippled. And RM want to make us deliver even more by extending duties using the Pegasus computer program. They create artificially large rounds by inputting urealistic walk speeds - upto 5miles an hour which some marathon runners don't manage - minus a bag of mail and signatures to get!

MAIL VOLUMES ARE NOT DOWN!! Mail volume used to be based on weight. It is now estimated on numbers of boxes of mail. Until recently the agreed figure (between RM and CWU) was 200 letters per box. RM have without consultation reduced that to 150 letters per box. CWU did a random count recently and found average was over 250 per box.

It is the pension fund deficit (created by RM's 10 year pension holiday) that absorbes all of RM's profit. The company is actually in vigerous health disregarding this pension deficit.

SPANISH PRACTICES DO NOT EXIST. The reality in modern delivery offices is that the posties slogs their guts out everyday under the gaze of managers ready to sack them for the slightest indiscression. Many many part-timers are bullied by managers into doing unpaid Over Time day in day out. All OT has to be OKed by management and most posties are too intimidated to go see their manager to ask for it. A lot of guy do hrs of OT per week for nothing. Managers run the show full stop.

Big boss Crozier is the highest renumerated civil servant in the UK - despite RM being 'on it's knees'??? Does that make financial sense? Do any of Croziers other proposals make financial sense? If so for who's benefit?

Leaflet payments for posties have remained unchanged for over 10 years. A pitiful 25 pounds on average per week for individually sorting and delivering almost 2thousand leaflets.
