National sorting rates
Can anyone tell me if they exist anymore, can a manager tell staff he wants so many items sorted a minute?

Re: National sorting rates
Royal Mail are no longer recognising the indivdual performance standards agreement which were based on standards devised by independent anayalists linked to 100BSI. To achieve 100BSI someone has to have a head of work and be fully motravted. The agreement which Royal Mail are no longer abiding by was based on 1 miniute tests.
Instead Royal Mail have introudced a new 3 step process which is unagreed with this union. This process is based on your overall perfomance during the day. There is no science to it , in fact far from it. In the past we have different planning values for letter , flats , packets and large lumps as they are different. Now Royal Mail calculate an average which is not recognised by the British Standards institute as you cant average planning values. In addition no time is given for walking to the PS locker or the bag fittings or the IPS.
In any way each walk has a different mix of flats .packets or letters. However Royal Mail know this but this process allows them to intrdouce revisons linked to their budgets and then bully indviduals to working faster and if needed beyond their time for fear of being taken of pay for the whole day and taken down the conduct code with the threat of being charged with wilful delay.
The 3 step unagreed process gives managers total control over the workforce. If a manager
either does not think an indivudual is working quicker enough or does not like an indivdual for that matter then he can call an indivdual into his office and say he believes he is breaking his contract of employment ( yes rubbish but thats what they do ) and gives that indivudual an informal warning.
The next step for this indivudual if the manager continues to think he/she is not working fast enough is to call him in the office and give him a formal warning which a letter detailing that he is in breach of contract and the next time it happens he will be taken off pay for the whole day.
The 3 rd step of the process is a letter taking that indivdual of pay and reseving their right to persue it under the conduct code.
This procedure is now widely used in London and we have had lots of people taken off pay and believe me they will use it elsewhere as it is a pretty effective tool for making indivduals think twice about doing the job properly etc.
Before anyone comes on here and says this is against the law , well it takes appoxmately 9 months to go to an indiustrial tribunal longer if it is a detailed pay related issue and Royal Mail may well pay out 9 months later but in the mean time they have created a climate of fear.
People to recognise we are in dispute which is totally different to any before they want to destroy us and this union hence this procedure.

Re: National sorting rates
The sorting I was refering to was sorting inside of a mail centre.
This is the first I have heard of this new sorting and a little taken a back by it to be honest. It does give managers the power to keep bullying staff which is outrageous and also to pick on staff as well i think. We have to win this cos if we dont this will become the norm.

seen this in action myself and it is used to ensure lapsing is done, also must be because of the lengthy legal process that the union say just do it and put in a grievance. But as i keep saying on here lets use these bullying tactics to make us more determined to make sure we get it right this time, and remember when christmas comes and that same manager that tried to screw you all year now wants you to do OT tell him to fu*k off, i will always remember how i have been treated and even after an agreement, i will never help my manager because he has treated me like s**t, not because he was told to but because he would profit from it.

Re: National sorting rates
The union saying just do it is a nonsense i think.
I mean arent we going on strike, possibly nationally, because of this exact thing or that not the real reason? Im starting to have my doubts now.

Re: National sorting rates
Dingo your post is spot on,this has been done to me on several occasions because i say that i will be over my time counting letters dividing by the time you are on the frame to come up with a minute prep rate but its set up all in the managers favour not counting missorts, collecting the mail or doing the packets. At interviews he say my prep is not up to standard i tell him that this is not a national agreed test he just ignores me and my rep. This is IMO blatant bullying harrasing.I just wish the union would tell the media what us posties have to put up with on a daily basis.
