There should be no agreement to hold back on a national strike until RM agree to withdraw ALL the imposed changes that have been made at MC's, DO's etc the length and breadth of the country. Members have fought hard against these changes ... to undo all their efforts for political and/or public convenience would be a travesty at this stage.

It has been said time and time again ... the CWU is up for change, up for modernisation and up for keeping RM as a profitable and progressive business ... but only through negotiation, not imposition.

Until RM is prepared to honour its obligations to the whole of the 2007 Pay & Modernisation Agreement, and the Hooper Report, the CWU must stand firm and press ahead with the national action.

Yes RM found some law dating that from the 1870s that outlawed it :mad

I really have enjoyed reading everyones views and opinions on my original post. To be honest though I'm still none the wiser on what would be the most effective strike action. With so many laws and rules to abide to it looks a lot tougher a task than I ever imagined.

Am I the only one that thinks perhaps we can't win this battle but we'll not go down without a fight?

This is exactly what Royal Mail wants though......guys like me that will do whatever the Union asks of me but in the back of my head I'm thinking 'Is this really achieving anything?' or 'I might as well join the strike breakers. I'll get paid and still benefit from any deals.'

What a crappy situation to be in, eh? Royal Mail pay my wages and the Union fights to make my job better. Wouldn't it be great if they could just work together? Especially Royal Mail! Just because they pay our wages is not an excuse to treat us like slaves and make us work to the facts, figures and times generated by a bloody computer!

You know what roll on whatever action is announced. Were screwed if we do strike and were screwed if we don't me thinks.

The whole situation is pretty ugly. (Pretty ugly??? LoL! How can it be pretty and ugly? LoL!! Anyways!)

So Lads , keep the faith.
Its a shame we cant have a strike on not delivering DHL, TNT and all the rest, force all the businesses to come back and use RM since noone else can deliver. f**k these competitors off. Plus work to rule wouldnt work in our office at all, there are always those who arnt in the union who love all this industrial action to get as much overtime as poss :no no :no no :no no

like the idea of MC strike on monday , drivers on WED so tuesdays work remains till Thurs , delivery strike on Friday means approx 3-4 day backlog by the following Monday.
Working to contracted hours, take meal relief, decline overtime, enforce H&S proceedures etc, 1 week will cause chaos resulting in initial 3/4 day backlog slowly increasing.

When talk of overtime ban please be clear, normaly the seniors get large amounts of SA and the lower downs make do with O/T .The last dispute a O/t ban was requested,OK,
ha but it did not apply to SA,so all the seniors could moan at the poor guys doing O/T did any seniors or CWU activists in my office refuse to do SA? no chance.

What is the difference between O/T and SA except seniors have SA most days and only the best where as O/T you have to work for your money ! Oh you also get 2 payments a year for not getting SA when on holiday!

I would love this as well as it will tell the government and postcom what we think. Just do it for a fortnight and all the competition suffer.

problem is if we go out and stay out they will be straight down the job centre rounding up every dosser and imigrant to do our job for half our wages, and we will get told do the same as them for the same money or here is your p-45, its a fine line between being enough of a pain to force rm into proper talks and not putting ourselves out of work

Not sure about that surely there is legislation in place to make sure this cant happen all I see in the last 24hr stoppage is people working there days off to make up for the 24hr stoppage surely this defeats the IA where as rolling strikes would encounter the same result with even more individuals feathering there own nests. I look at the comments daily and prior to the national ballot the war cry was out vote yes vote yes but where are we really going with this action surely they could still bring in casuals or draft in managers from all over to cover the rolling strikes and lets face it we will still be out of pocket and clearing backlogs till the next motion for RM improvments and cost cutting implimentations :arrrghhh :arrrghhh

they can make legislation up at the drop of a hat, was watching the news this morning about the selling off of assets and they just said we will change the legislation to make it possible, they were so flippant over it that it didnt seem like it would be any problem for them to change it, so whats to say it wouldnt be just as easy to change it to break us.
We all know that they are capable of anything with the backing of the government, which they have.
We are really in it this time
