I hear the smart money is on Wednesday, Thursday, Friday next week (one function each day). Not sure about that. Means we have to cross picket lines, people taken off pay etc. Would have prefered all out together. Still, let's get fighting against Royal Mail and the government anyway.

That's the problem with rolling days - crossing picket lines - some feel there is no point in manning a picket line that is in name only. We had a problem getting a picket line last time. How does staggering the days damage RM any more than simply shutting everything down at once? There is also the problem of rolling days whereby some, because of our rolling day off, lost 1 day in 4 and others lost all four. Anyway whichever they decide to do - the sooner the better.

Royal Mail bosses have been kept waiting over whether they face a national strike by up to 120,000 postal workers.

There are warnings of widespread disruption in the run-up to Christmas



Union officials have met to discuss when to call out their members following a huge vote in favour of industrial action.

They are considering a number of options, including a nationwide walkout by all postal workers, or a rolling programme of action involving different groups of workers taking action on different days.

The latter tactic would maximise disruption to post deliveries while minimising the effect on the pay of workers involved in strikes.

But it has now emerged that no decision is expected today.

In any case, the union will first have to give seven days' notice of a strike.

It is feared further strike action could hit Christmas deliveries if a deal is not reached in the short term.


The problem is that once a customer moves they're unlikely to return. The strike could end up delivering some first-class business into competitors' hands.

Further talks are due to be held later this week but there is little sign of a breakthrough.

The union insists that the Royal Mail is imposing changes onto postal workers, cutting jobs and pay which officials say is leading to a worsening service.

The Royal Mail says managers are implementing an agreed deal between the two sides to modernise the service which was drawn up after the last national dispute two years ago.

Members of the union voted by three to one last week to strike following months of regional stoppages.

Business groups have warned that a national strike will have a huge impact on companies trying to recover from the recession.

If the strikes are to begin on Wednesday 21st as has been suggested on this site, then the CWU will announce this on 14th I would assume. This gives RM the mandatory 7 days notice and NO more.

How on Earth can this be going on so long I hear you ask. Apparently one senior official, whose surname rhymes with chord, is arguing for a one day strike....and not until 23 October. Others still want the functional on 21-23 October. Deadlock? Have to be sorted soon. Who can sit it out longest....

bet there all in the pub by now, can't see them still talking now. most probably round 2 tomorrow, then round 3 on wednesday and so on. Disgraceful, so many people waiting to support them , willing to lose money putting thereselfs under finacial pressure, wifes nagging , people wondering what the future holds for all of us. GET YOUR ACT TOGETHER NOW!!!!!!!!! It,s quite simple for next week all out 2 days, then you can argue about the other s**t for the week later.
