the mail will still be delivered by the posties we would save ££££££ give half to the posties who do a great job, and invest the rest back in the company for decent equipment better still let that lot go out on delivery for a year and see how they feel on a posties wage doing all the graft in all weathers doub't if they all would last a week, and having to absorb extra work for nothing I dont think they would be so happy do you ???

I posted a smaller article on the same subject from todays Daily Star( which didn't have the breakdown), on their notice board today along side all their "what the papers say" propaganda...well I thought it was the appropriate place...funny thing is by the time I got back from delivery it had vanished.
On asking where it was ...I was told" ******* has done the figures and that only works out to £400 each when you split it between all the ,managers".

Obviously didn't take the time to search for the facts then,(although I think the mystery of who is supplying the traffic figures has been solved)

Royal Mail bosses have shared more than £10million in bonuses for implementing cost-cutting measures that union leaders blame for pushing the organisation to the brink of a national strike.

Thirteen current and former executives at the state-owned company have pocketed large rewards since 2002-3 for hitting targets aimed at modernising the business.

But a spokesman for the Communication Workers Union said Royal Mail directors have been getting 'unwarranted bonuses' for cost cutting and axing jobs.

The postal group reported an operating profit of £321million in the year to 31 March - the first time in 20 years that all four parts of the business had been profitable.

But the CWU spokesman said: 'So why haven't the workforce had a pay rise then?'

He noted that, despite the financial improvement, workers have had their pay frozen for 12 months. The average postal worker earns a gross of £346 a week.

Royal Mail chief Adam Crozier has banked £2.4million in performance bonuses since arriving at the group in 2003.

This boosted his £3.6million total salary over the period, not including further perks that have added millions more to his rewards package.

Details of the largesse emerged as more than 140,000 postal workers prepare to strike over job security and working conditions.

It is not the first time Mr Crozier's pay has caused uproar at Royal Mail.

Last year he received more than £3million, or about 180 times a typical postman's salary, during a period when he was attempting to shut down 2,500 post offices.

Since 2002-03, Royal Mail has paid its executive team a total of more than £22million in salaries alone. This was increased by £10.7million in performance-related bonuses.

Royal Mail said the figures were not new, and the cause of the dispute between the management and workforce was the CWU's opposition to 'essential modernisation'.

A spokesman said: 'Pay for Royal Mail executives is set out completely transparently every year in the annual report, including for the year ended 31 March 2009, when Royal Mail more than doubled its profits in spite of the sharp drop in the market and tough economic conditions.'

He added that during this time 'the vast majority of mail was delivered on or ahead of target, as it was in the first quarter of this year before the CWU embarked on its wholly irresponsible and unjustified strikes'.

Leaders of 120,000 postal workers are today expected to set dates for nationwide strikes which will cripple deliveries across the country.

The postal executive of the CWU will meet to discuss when to call out their members following a huge vote in favour of industrial action.

The union will have to give seven days' notice of a strike, so the first walk-out could be next Monday.

When I first read about the postman's strike I thought it wrong But these facts were unknown to me if performance related pay is given Then it should be given to all I suspect that rank and file workers Who do not perform face disciplinary action and the loss of their job So why do the Royal Mail executives think they alone are entitled to such vast salaries and bonuses FOR JUST DOING THEIR JOB !

This is a national disaster- much akin to the lemmings(allegedly) leaping en masse over a cliff. But you have given us details of the bosses pay- how much do the union barons get- financed by the subs of lowly paid union members.

Being a regular purchaser of items from Play.com and totally satisfied with the speedy delivery by Royal Mail,I was surprised when the latest parcel franked with some obscure Postcom stamp took 5 days to arrive,I was even more surprised to see it was still delivered by my friendly Royal Mail postman.This is typical of what will happen if Mandelson gets his way and gives our Postal Service to his European buddies.

Bonuses,pah,it's not the bonuses you want to worry about,that is as certain as taxes,it's other things that go on you should grate about,details to come soon.

I agree Postman, but it does hack all the staff off reading figures like these, I think we all know whats coming basically RM want a PT wokforce and hell bent on doing what ever it takes, another round of EVR's no doubt, and replace the good old FT 20odd year expirence posties with 2 x 15hr contract Part timers to do more work!!, no pension for a year and no sick leave entitlement also for a year, who can survive on that!!next they will have us working till were 80!!
