Unite/CMA scabbing during our dispute.

Post by Geezer »

You will be interested in this motion from Bath Trades Council about managers from Unite/CMA scabbing during our dispute

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

From ******* ****** ,
Joint convenor,
National shop Stewards Network
------------------------------
Comrades,

I believe this is a key issue for our union, the movement and consequently the United Left.
Are we to tolerate organised scabbing by Unite members?
Or are we going to do everything in our power to support brothers and sisters in the CWU?
The outcome of the post strike will have ramifications for every public sector worker.
To help build solidarity and try and stop the scabbing, can I urge
comrades to move the motion below at Unite meetings?

Model resolution

Royal Mail Managers across Britain have been mobilised in an effort to weaken the postal workers and their CWU union in the run-up to national strikes.
Managers are travelling hundreds of miles in order to do work that is proper to CWU members and to attempt to drive down the backlog of post that has built up during the regional strikes.
At the beginning of October, for example, managers from Belfast were working in Bristol. Swindon Managers were in London, and Scottish Managers were clearing packets in East Anglia .

Managers are also cooperating with Royal Mail's plans to set up scab centres, on the model of Wapping during the News International strike.

Managers are also bullying and harassing postal workers, and refusing normal union facilities.

The vast majority, if not all, of these duties rely on managers volunteering their services.

As Unite members we are scandalised that some Unite-CMA members are volunteering for these anti-union duties.

We support the following motion:

1. We stand 100 percent with the CWU against Royal Mail and will do all in our power to assist their struggle against the management and its backers in the
government - including collecting money and attending picket lines and solidarity rallies.

2. We condemn Royal mail management for organising scabbing and attacking postal workers and their union.

3. We condemn the government for allowing this to happen and call on them to demand that it ceases immediately.

4. We condemn all Unite members who are volunteering for scabbing and call on them to stop immediately.

5. We condemn Unite members who intimidate and bully postal workers.

6. We call on Unite to expel CMA members who volunteer for scabbing.

7. UNITE should instruct CMA members not to perform anything but their normal duties or to work beyond their normal hours until the CWU has achieved a satisfactory deal.

8. UNITE should defend any CMA member who refuses to participate in the scabbing operation and shows solidarity with CWU members in dispute.

9. UNITE should begin its own industrial action ballot for CMA members in Royal Mail.

10. UNITE should call an emergency meeting of the Administration,Managerial,Professional and Supervisory National Sector Committee to discuss and find ways to support the CWU

11. We believe that the National Officer (Julia Long) should publicly condemn the scabbing.

It's all a big adventure for the scum. Put up in a hotel, dropping a few SD's or packets off in a town they don't know and a big chunk of change in the bank.

Had hoped a few years back that the doms were going to go on strike but whatever the gripe was fizzled out. I will never support any dom in a strike issue so cant see why we should expect them to support us. Forget all this solidarity pish, they wear suits and dont get their hands dirty so as far as I'm concerned they are not 'working class' as we are.
I am a postman and I kept the faith and I kept voting, not for new labour but for the working man.

Pensions - I think the CMA actually said at one point that this was an issue that it was in agreement with the CWU.

Before I started the job, they did walk out in my Office they weren't missed and returned with they're tails between they're legs,
Think I would probably cross they're picket line as they've continually refused to support us and have taken great pleasure in doing so.

Many moons ago managers went out on strike,as has been said before it made no diffrence to us in fact the whole office including the mail centre and distribution,it all ran as smooth as a well oiled machine,in fact much more efficentley so i think thats why the managers never go out on strike because they like to believe that it would all fall apart if they were not there.

Well, for what it's worth I don't think you are doing yourselves any favours by the vitriol you are constantly heaping upon other employees within the business. Yes, I'm a manager and yes, been there, done that, on strike in the early 70's with my dad and my uncles and really don't want to go down that route again. There are enormous problems in the business at the moment and I have to say I don't know what the answer is. If you want to strike then that is your prerogative but don't presume to speak for me and what I stand for, you don't know me, you don't know anything about me and calling me and my colleagues scum and arseholes doesn't help. Have you ever stopped to think that perhaps some managers are also being bullied and harassed into clearing backlogs and will maybe be told to cross picket lines under threat, that they are unhappy with the way the business is going as well but perhaps don't think that a strike is necessarily the answer? That's a rhetorical question and I'm not expecting anything other than an abusive response but nevertheless I think it's food for thought.

Ronnie, as we all know you're union is a very weak one and any action you take alone will result in failure, but at the moment we are fighting for our future and the future of the company, you say managers are also being bullied and harassed, if you are not happy why not make a stand beside us and show that there is serious problems at Royal Mail! rather than helping to undermine us! Years ago we had Postmasters, Chief inspectors and Inspectors who started as Postmen and worked they're way up and they knew all about the job now we have Crozier, Higson and others who are only here temporarily and know nothing of what the job entails, putting profit before service, making millions for themselves and it will be us left to pick up the pieces when they move on, and don't think it just our jobs that are being cut, they'll want more savings and eventually they're sights will be set on Managers jobs, and then who will you turn to?

Several posts deleted for f***s sake how many times do I and the other Moderators have to say.

Please remember everyone is welcome on this site. Customers, CWU Officers, Royal Mail Managers, all Royal Mail employees, the General Public, the press, and even MPs, so please do not resort to abuse if people of a different political persuasion or viewpoint to you, post on a thread.

I am getting fed up of people ignoring the rules and I will now start handing out warnings and bans if I and POSTMAN think its warranted.
