it works off the backs of its members, the full timers in the SWP take an average wage and this is paid out of subs and fund raising.Night Tonic wrote:I wouldn't worry about my view old chum. cast your mind back to the last strike, it was no different then, the only paper that supported us was the mirror . however, the strike went ahead and it got the RM management eventually around the table. now we could argue about the deal struck but it depends which side of the fence you sit on.Night Tonic wrote:I wouldn't worry about my view old chum. I would think he's implying that the SWP do nothing more than sit around earnestly discussing the minutiae of Left Wing political theory, while the actual workers get on with earning a living to stay alive, and generally speaking, he'd be absolutely right.borders wrote:it works off the backs of its members, the full timers in the SWP take an average wage and this is paid out of subs and fund raising.Night Tonic wrote:I wouldn't worry about my view old chum. The question was posed a while ago; what have the SWP ever actually achieved, (other than a supply of very poor quality bog paper) and no-one could think of anything. Is there anything at all this particular talking-shop can lay claim to achieving?

Re: Postmen prats
The Socialist Worker paper does report Industrial Action which is usually ignored by the mainstream
press. It is on the side of trade unionists unlike most of the mainstream press. Of course it has it's
own political slant to it's reporting, but all papers do. You have to take that into account.
I'm no supporter of the SWP, and agree that they do see Industrial Action as a way in to
recruit a few new members, who usually drop out again shortly afterwards.
But their members have been helpful in disputes in introducing strikers to other trade unionists,
producing leaflets and posters, and raising funds. As long as we are aware that they have their
own agenda there is nothing wrong with that.
They are a shadow of what they were in the 70's, but that reflects the state of the labour movement
in general in Britain.
I think they did quite a lot in leading the fight against the rise of the far right in the 70's, through
Rock Against Racism and the Anti-Nazi League, which stopped the fascist National Front which was
achieving some success at that time.

Re: Postmen prats
your statement is irrelevent to my reply to your mucker, the SWP have full time staff paid a average wage paid out of subs and fund raising and the rest of its members are unpaid volunteers , hardly a burden to the rest of us unlike our esteemed politicians.Tman wrote:I would think he's implying that the SWP do nothing more than sit around earnestly discussing the minutiae of Left Wing political theory, while the actual workers get on with earning a living to stay alive, and generally speaking, he'd be absolutely right.borders wrote:it works off the backs of its members, the full timers in the SWP take an average wage and this is paid out of subs and fund raising.Night Tonic wrote:I wouldn't worry about my view old chum. An irrelevant rebuff. The point being made is that the press are roasting postal workers right now. How politics can be blamed when it seems to be right across the press, regardless of political bias, I don't know.

my reply was to this part of your post " another group that works off the backs of others", maybe you would like to expand on this.

Why won't you tell me your view on this story? You've told everyone on the forum all about yourself, and your life in RM, so why won't you tell us your opinion on this article, do you think it is likely to be true or notNight Tonic wrote:I wouldn't worry about my view old chum. Re: Postmen prats
Actually your view as a Postal Worker facing these changes and whether you agree with them or not is more important to me that the opinions of people who post comments on biased media websites. After all you should be better informed than they are are more cognisant of the problems and benefits that we are to or will face.Night Tonic wrote:I wouldn't worry about my view old chum. For a start we know that you don't like the SWP or any of the, as you labelled them "duffel coated brigade" and that you seem to be a pessimist, beyond that we know nothing of your views on the matters facing us and, in their own way, that's all some members are trying to find out.

I have no time whatsoever for mainstream British politics, as it benefits but just a small percentage of the British people. The press "roasting postal workers right now", regardless of whatever political hue a newspaper stands behind, doesn't bother me, nor will it bother most strikers I should imagine.Night Tonic wrote:An irrelevant rebuff. So what do you think was the late Mother Theresa and the Catholic Church's view on non-christians getting into heaven, do you not think they judge them
