Yes it's true.russell1973 wrote:thanks for that..any chance of seeing this document as i do a reps position .i have all the up to date documents and that aint one of them.i find it hard to believe that any insurance firm would insure anyone any car any town to drive street 2 street with thousands of pieces of mail in them...how do they pay out for stolen mail .how would they calculate it...find it very hard to believe mate..but please try and put up the paper work that you were given..OnAFlyer wrote:Sorry mate that's wrong, we had the document check etc a few weeks ago and got a pack with all the insurance information in - RM's insurance has now been extended to cover storing mail in private cars and also to move your car along the delivery route whilst carrying mail.russell1973 wrote:no mail is ment to b kept in your car except for your first bag. then your car is to be left at your starting point not driven around street by street like many do...u aint insured for that...........simple.OnAFlyer wrote:I agree - RM have only recently extended their insurance to cover mail to be kept in private cars on delivery. Simple fact is it benefits them so there's no way they will stop it unless they have good reason to.dingo wrote:The end of cars on delivery will happened only when Royal Mail"s 140 million investment into car derived vans is fully rolled out. All walks except those closest to the office will be paired as a car derived van duty.
What isn't covered is delivering packets from the car or dropping bags off for anyone else if it's not on your normal route.
Regardless of that anyone using their own car should have business insurance anyway, unless you only want RM's third party cover (crash your car and get nothing!)

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

How would the dom of do's cope if there was a nationwide ban on car use?
they would be over worked lol.
they would have to sort out the logistics of transporting bag drops etc, far too much for them to deal with.

Thats why they want as many rounds as possible to use car derived vans, it solves the problem.
In effect a urban rual delivery.

well our office stopped the use of car's about 2 month's ago now. it's in total chaos every walk cut off yesterday the driver's didn't even finnish the reg's. there's work under every bay and it's stacked up in yorkies. bosses are under so much pressure they dred comming to work now. we all take our break's go out on the van's and just wait for the work at pouch boxes if it don't turn up we don't ring anyone we just wait we've even stopped calling the office on our mobil's. once it's our finishing time we stop pouch it off at go home and tell the boss we cut of next morning and let him do the worrying.

If this happened in all offices it could be just as effective as a strike. Welldone to your office stick with it, only wish i could get the idiots to do it at my office.

Re: Heard a rumour about cars
Great news cant wait for the use of private cars to be banned and its about time the IB, postcomm and the CWU outlawed this selfish working practise as there is absolutely no excuse from any one using there car now a days and i for one will not take any ones B/S and why they are using there car. Its just a pity this didnt happen 10 years ago .
I my office out of a 100 staff there is 1 person that uses there car and the rep has refused to represent them and has given them the number of the area rep.

all the new guys are employed on the basis they can drive. Over 25 now use private cars on delivery in our office
there would be no vans to take us out if they stopped

Every office in the country should be doing it ,and doing the job properly ,why can't we all stand together and do just that until we walk out on strikebluebite79 wrote:kwikpost wrote:well our office stopped the use of car's about 2 month's ago now. it's in total chaos every walk cut off yesterday the driver's didn't even finnish the reg's. there's work under every bay and it's stacked up in yorkies. bosses are under so much pressure they dred comming to work now. we all take our break's go out on the van's and just wait for the work at pouch boxes if it don't turn up we don't ring anyone we just wait we've even stopped calling the office on our mobil's. once it's our finishing time we stop pouch it off at go home and tell the boss we cut of next morning and let him do the worrying.![]()

Re: Heard a rumour about cars
Some offices want you to use your cars for ease, but that doesnt mean you are insured, if you lose the mail in your car the managers will deny they allow you to use your cars and you will take the punishment for it. Private cars aint insured and in my area we are forbidden to use them but i know in other areas managers allow it but thats because its easier for them. Mark my words if there were any problems they would deny it.

Re: Heard a rumour about cars
I spotted a postie (not from my d.o.) wheel a coffin piled high with bundles of mail out to his car and proceed to pile it all into his boot, it must have been his entire walk he was putting in there, unbelievable!

At my DO and section its a minimum of 15 mins - up to 40 for the furthest.
The DO itself its seconds to 4 lads who get taken out by van but its still 30 - 40 minutes away, If they took a bus it would be an hour and 15 minutes.
