Postal staff are being trained to spot cannabis farms in homes
Postal workers are being recruited by police in Edinburgh to help in the fight against illegal drugs.

They are among a group of workers, regularly out in the community, who will be trained by the police to spot the signs of cannabis farms.

The move is part of a Lothian and Borders police drive to act on the growing number of illegal farms.

Around 100 such farms have been closed across the country in the last 12 months.

The training and information seminars are also aimed at council workers, landlords and letting agents.

A police spokesman said one of the best ways to tackle the drugs problem was to educate people about the drug trade.

The spokesman said: "Cannabis is the most widely used illicit drug in Scotland and the UK. Its commercial cultivation is a powerful tool in funding the various criminal activities of serious organised crime groups.

"Cultivations also pose a major risk to properties, which are often gutted in order to maximize the available space to grow and cultivate cannabis.

"This destruction is in addition to the major structural damage that is caused when setting up cultivation sites. It is estimated that private homes suffer an average of £15,000 in alterations made to the properties by cannabis cultivators."

Oh great! Now the Posties in that area, aregoing to be facing violence from Drug Dealers, as well as all the other hazards!

Do you think they've even considered the fact that the next time one of these Canabis Farms is raided. The Dealers will assume that they were reported by the local Postie. Even if he/she had nothing to do with it?!?!?

Oh why Oh why in the name of all that's sensible did they make this public. I had a copper stop me once on a duty and ask me questions, I shook my head as if I was saying No and said to them. "Don't ask me any question while I am walking round the estate, I have built up trust here and your ruining it. But I'll pop in to the station when I am done". Thats what I did and now when we see each other its a "Morning mate" and "Can we see you later" if they want to ask me any questions.

Now with this not only do we have to watch out for Giro Bandits now we have to watch out for the Stoned Giro Bandits with a grudge.
