Look we have only just got a yes vote. Now remember striking is not an end in itself it is a means to an end. I realise there is always going to be a gung ho appoach to strike action especially after such a good result.

But it is normal for a period of strike action we had a two week period before the first London strike and we have had after tomorrow 15 strike days so the intial pause was hardly a sign of weakness.

There is also a balancing act some members throughtout the uk have been out a lot and there is some serious hardship cases out there so all this call for 3 days or more out is not going to be a goer.

On Monday all the divsional reps , regional secretaries and PEC members and officers have a meeting at 11 in order for the field officials to give their division / regions views on what action we should take. Most divsional reps will ring branch"s to find out the views or hold conference calls. The PEC will then meet in the afternoon to decide the course of events based on some informed information.

We have a massive backlog so more strike action soon is a must but in my view it should be rolling days RDCs/Vocs out on one day . mail centres and collections out on another and deliveries out on a further day. That way we cause chaos for a week but only lose indivuduals one days pay.

Remember this is going to be a long dispute, a lot of members have already sacficed a lot for this union . So the strike is there to ensure we achieve the right agreement for our futures, the victory is the agreement the victory is never the strike itself.

Just as our headquaters must not waste the members support we also have a duty to ensure we bring the vast majority of people with us if we have to take strike action and thats why one dayers are really the best show in town.

Surely a complete shutdown although painful in monetary terms would have a devastating effect and would bring a far quicker result. Bitting & bobbing day here day ther like before , waste of time

I meet members pratically every day doing another office meeting tomorrow and if you want to see this strike lost then take the members out for a week and you will see a drift.

Most of our members want to support the union, we have done 15 strikes thus far but people are hurting finaincialy and I know very few are calling for an all out strike , people who normally call for that do not have the support of their fellow colleagues. As some one who has been out an all out strike that lasted 3 weeks I know its bloody hard and some idivuduals crack even thou they support the cause but they cant sustained the loss.

I can tell there is offices chomping at the bit to go out..but please remember London and others have been at this since June..if the NEC gives RM a time to thing on the implications of the NB result..it gives the the membership here time to get ready for the next round..please please take into account what sacrifices have been made to get us here..

When we go again we will go and it will be f**kin nuclear !!

As well as strikes, I think we should boycott TNT or UKmail letters and packets.
Wait for them to state how they are taking RM business, which they will! Then stop handling their stuff for a week or two, and make it known through the media.

Sounds like the sensible option to me. Any chance of some assurance that our decision makers have learnt the hard lessons from the last dispute ,that this time the rolling action continues unchecked until an Agreement is reached. Letting RM dictate the rules and play silly buggers last time cost us dearly in terms of support, on off on off all at management whim does not really work for a mass action.
There is after all no basis for any level of trust in RM management given their conduct over the last few years, and if rolling action is the chosen method then it would be a bit self defeating to allow RM to clear any backlog weekly by offering sham talks.

Talks might be on and off for about twelve weeks before the CWU leasership have the sense to realise that there really must be a strike, by which time the Christmas pressure has passed and it's January !

just walk into the meeting slap down a seven day notice of strike action. tell them thats the feeling of the membership what are YOU going to do about it,
the clock is ticking.

Don't ever underestimate the importance of public and press opinion on a matter a big as this.

If the CWU don't look like they are eager to reach a negotiated settlement they could be underminned by a press backlash and the fight would be over before it begins. Remember many people think we are just being lazy here so support can turn quickly - due to RM propaganda. The CWU need to be seen to be acting with restraint full-stop. And if they can win this over the table before a strike why not give them that chance? OK unlikely!

Is it possible to exclude the London area from a national strike notice? The staff down there have led from the front and should now be given a break while we in other areas put the pressure on. Refusal or in fact the inability of areas outside London to handle mail in and out of the area will still put pressure on RM, but give London staff full wages to help them recover from their losses so far at least until we are all on an equal footing - if the action gets that far.

The rolling strikes system was working very well last time but were halted too early, while there was still breath in RM's body. This time the action should carry on during talks - not as an alternative to them, and should not stop until we have satisfactory signed agreements on our future.

not sure if london working while the rest of the country strike's is a good idea. to be honest we're just happy that we're all now in this together.
