lover wrote:thats a good, thought but not really answering the question.your answers is to wheather you should stay at home or not.you think we should stay at home incase we infect others who may be more fragile than ourselves and inadvertantly kill them.if i came back off my holiday with typhus and stayed at home can i get that discounted cos that sure as shite kills more people it infects.people are guilty of jumping on the old band wagon me thinks.
Typhus is only contagious enough to be considered a similar threat, in highly unsanitary conditions. Although obviously, it is a contagious desiese.

the point i am making is ,an illness is illness .all should be counted or none should be.the point isnt that you were ill with this or that, its that you were ill.
It depends on how contagious it is, in my opinion.

you cant bitch and moan that this systems in place.we all know why its there.but some of our number abused the system.using sickness for extra holiday.weve gone over this in an old thread before.we all know people that have done it and still do it.its our collective fault that this system,no matter how draconian,is in place.
Sadly, you're right about that. But why "tar us all with the same brush"?
Just because there's some, who're selfish, and irrisponsible enough. To abuse the system, to get time off when they want it. It doesn't mean that we're all like that! :arrrghhh

any accident on company time doing company work should be discounted toward sick leave.i dont care if its 90percent your fault.you wouldnt be their to do it if not working.but you cant say," no that illness counts but that one doesnt".if someone caught swine flu three time in a year i think they would be lead swingers .but some propose it be discounted...doesnt anyone see how stupid an idea that is

clearly some union reps and health and safty reps, have nothing better to do with their work time than think of ways to feel hard done by.they are probably the same people who campaigned to get cycle helmets supplied because royal mail wouldnt.well i bet the men sacked for not wearing them love them
So you'd prefer them to stop bothering then? :hmmmm
Perhaps we should stop encouraging Drivers to wear their Seatbelts?
And maybe, stop paying attention to Safe Docking Procedures?

If people spent a bit more time, paying attention to both their own, and other's safety. There'd be a lot less accidents in RM. Like the bloke who suffered a permanent back injury, because someone pulled a Trailer off the Bay, while he was driving into it, on his FLT! :arrrghhh :d'oh! :arrrghhh :no no

I suggest you read this Poem. And hopefully learn something from it, before someone get's hurt by your attitude to H&S:
I chose to look the other way
I could have saved a life that day,
But I chose to look the other way.
It wasn't that I didn't care,
I had the time, and I was there.

But I didn't want to seem a fool,
Or argue over a safety rule.
I knew he'd done the job before,
If I called it wrong, he might get sore.
The chances didn't seem that bad,
I've done the same, he knew I had.

So I shook my head and walked on by,
He knew the risks as well as I.
He took the chance, I closed an eye,
And with that act, I let him die.

I could have saved a life that day,
But I chose to look the other way.
Now every time I see his wife,
I'll know I should have saved his life.

That guilt is something I must bear,
But it isn't something you need to share,
If you see a risk that others take,
That puts their health or life at stake.
The question asked, or thing you say,
Could help them live another day.

If you see a risk and walked away,
Then I hope you never have to say,
I could have saved a life that day,
But I chose to look the other way.

what are you on about?

as for your very lame comenets.
yes you should stop encouraging people to do what YOU think they should do.
if they want to wear a seat belt let them if they dont thats their choice.
if they think a helmet wil save their lives and want to wear one, let them.if your like me a know for a fact that they put you in greater danger then i shouldnt be forced to wear one...its that personal belife thing and personal choice thing...who am i or you to tell anyone else what they should or shouldnt do..

its our lives to save or lose
if they want to spend their days injecting heroine into their eyeball.then thats fine by me.if thats what they want
your presumption of some supiorority makes me wanna vomit.and is the only thing that has starts all wars.
more and more as this contry get worse and worse ,anarchy seems the best solution.

Careful Lover, arguing with the vocal majority will only bring accusations that you're a manager  or in some way deluded...

what are you on about?
The number of accidents in RM. :d'oh!
The fact that people like you (by your own admission), put people in danger, every day. Think about it for a moment: How long does it take to put on, and remove a Seatbelt?
If one person is taking safety seriously, and another doesn't bother. Then when you have a lot of stops, the time will accumulate. Which will inevitably result in a Manager thinking that the irrisponsible fool, is more efficient, and the safe person, is lazy.

A better example of this, is carrying overweight bags. More weight=less bags. So it saves time carrying too much weight. But it also causes a large number of Muscular Skelital injuries. I've seen far too many of my Collegues injured by carrying overwieght bags.

who are you talking too?
You, of course (please keep up!). You have stated quite clearly, in this, and your previous post. That you think that H&S is a waste of time. So you obviously couldn't care less about either your own safety, or those around you. Have you had the misfortune to have seen a serious AOD?
I have. And believe me. It makes you take these things a lot more seriously!

as for your very lame comenets.
yes you should stop encouraging people to do what YOU think they should do.
It's the Law! Specifically the Health and Safety At Work Act. :arrrghhh
if they want to wear a seat belt let them if they dont thats their choice.
And yet, they, or their Families. Would still expect compensation, if the Driver was injured, or killed, because he/she wasn't wearing a Seatbelt. :d'oh!
if they think a helmet wil save their lives and want to wear one, let them.if your like me a know for a fact that they put you in greater danger then i shouldnt be forced to wear one...its that personal belife thing and personal choice thing...who am i or you to tell anyone else what they should or shouldnt do..

And that's why we have so many problems with Junkies: Too many people not caring about what happens elsewhere. :d'oh!

It's got nothing to do with superiority. It's to do with RESPONSIBILITY. Our Employer has a legal duty, to provide SSOW, safe quipment, etc.. But WE have a legal responsibility to adhere to them. :hmmmm

I was in a firm today delivering their mail when I got talking to the receptionist, who told me that they are NOT to come into work if they (or anyone in the house) has swine flu and she was quite shocked when I told her that we had to come in otherwise it could be a sacking offence.

Been off with it for 2 weeks now and probably more to come due to a underlying condition which has been affected, and as RM's guidelines are to treat it as any other illness and i was also informed that all stages will be issued it could get interesting.

Good luck ade@cambs. I think you'll need it, if you're already on a Stage 2. If you're not alread on a Stage 2, than don't worry about it. I got a Stage 1 recently for an AOD. It's just a worthless piece of paper, fit for nothing but toilet paper!

Don't worry about it then. A Stage 1 is of little consequence. It's only when you reach Stage 2, that you have anything to worry about. That's why you can appeal a Stage 2 or 3, but can't appeal a Stage 1. Even if the Stage 1 is for an AOD that wasn't your fault. Or in your case, you caught a Pandemic Illness, which could potentially affect everyone in the Country, before it goes away.
