JACK Tompkins (Sep 28) complains about post being lost by Royal Mail. I suggest he spends a Saturday afternoon at Sheffield Mail Centre on Brightside Lane.
His eyes would certainly be opened as to how this can happen. People posting mail without writing an address on the envelope is one reason; only giving part of an address is another. There are others.

MR Tompkins, in writing about post items going missing, mentions the practice of sending birthday and Christmas cards with money in them.
Most of my cards for these occasions are given out in advance, although family and friends have sent cards with money in them and they have never arrived.
Last December, I rang Tapton Hill Mailing Services to report that 12 Christmas cards I had received had been slit at the left side of the envelope. The operator said he would look into it.
