Re: All year lapsing
Regarding flexing,it can be done 2 days within a week, then you have 2 days to get it back, then you have the odd day left.
I Wrote-During Covid-Which is still relevant now
It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Im sure you'll have a plausible explanation though.Big Daz wrote:Part timers exempted, time does not exist on PT duties.
Other than that all FT duties abosorb when required.
Of course im part time Ive made that clear often enough that i do a 6 hour day 30 hours a week duty. Same as you in that I took a buy down of hours, which for me took place September 2007.
The national agreement say where time exists and time does not exist. I do not go under 30 hours a week.
Its overall duty time that counts and a FT with a 2.5 hour longer day whose only difference in workload is 60 to 80 mins IPS has plenty of spare time and they still get J and F.
IPS time is down compared to five years ago at my D.O due to a more mail getting walksorted and it is the reduced IPS time that is being utlised for outdoor absorption.

Re: All year lapsing
There has been no change to outdoor delivery span it's still nationally 3.5 hours, and anytime covering lapsed duties counts towards this. thats the same for f/t and p/t staff. There is less ips work, but there is also less f/t staff to do it, and more p/t duties to be preped.Big Daz wrote:dvbuk55 wrote:I'll just bet you're part time and the full timers at your office are overjoyed with the deal - our part timers also do lapsed because the time saving element must be the same across the board if a duty is 3.5 hrs as it's supposed to be. Re: All year lapsing
PT all prep their own dels at my place and all but two are 30 hour contracts. One is a 32 hour contract as he is a floater that covers FT and PT duties and one is a 20 hour duty with a small delivery.
The 20 hour duty was orginally bolted on to a small firms delivery but was seperated and a brand new 20 hour duty was created and the AWD hours put into the D.O.

These deliveries must be extremely well organised to take precisely 3.5 hours each day and the prep time is also exactly the same time to fulfil exactly the 30 hours - really amazing. I'm sure there is a law that explains this - ah yes:
“Work expands so as to fill the time available for its completion.” - Cyril Northcote Parkinson circa 1955

That doesn't seem to apply to RM managers though.dvbuk55 wrote:“Work expands so as to fill the time available for its completion.” - Cyril Northcote Parkinson circa 1955

Who said anything about 3.5 hours? Forgive my ignorance but the 2007 agreement does not talk about delivery time, it says
To jointly identify/implement genuine opportunities to absorb outdoor and/or indoor workload where time exists within approved attendance times/normal paid work hours.
What your hinting at is in breach of the 2007 deal, dvbuk manager in disguise, who would have thought it?
Im allocated 3 hours 15 mins for my delivery and 15 mins travel 2 hours indoor for prep, RLE, gents and 30 mins meal break, hardly generous is it? A FT doing 70 mins IPS on a 8.30 day has 7 hours 20 mins to do what I have to do in 6 hours, now thats what I call generous.

Re: All year lapsing
Not a manager in disguise BD - merely someone who spots a chancer when he sees one - the agreed delivery span is 3.5 hours not 3hrs 15 mins and 2 hours to throw a delivery off - course that doesn't include the RLE, Gents and 30 mins meal break which I presume you take before delivery. Have you no park and loopers there BD? Why are the FT 8.30?Big Daz wrote:dvbuk55 wrote:These deliveries must be extremely well organised to take precisely 3.5 hours each day and the prep time is also exactly the same time to fulfil exactly the 30 hours - really amazing. Re: All year lapsing
lapsing started and stopped within 1 week at our office. we all do the job to the book so there's no time to do part of another walk. you wouldn't believe how much stress our bosses are under and how easy our lives now are.

Re: All year lapsing
i think some of you are getting mixed up with absorbing and lapsing
absorbing is when you are asked to do part of a walk that has failed
lapsing is when you dont have enough time to completee your delivery

Re: All year lapsing
I also thought that absorbing and lapsing were in essence the same thing - more outdoor delivery within paid hours.
AIUI
Lapsing - when managers declare that a walk that has a postal officer dedicated for the duty but is removed and the delivery parcelled out to others on top of their own delivery.
Absorbing - When a duty is not covered because of sickness or other unplanned occurrence, this duty is then parcelled out as in lapsing.

well what ever it's called we don't do it. we only did it for 1 week and then it lasted for 3 day's'. all those that took part of the walk out cut off and sent work back. just do the job to the book and you can beat them at their own game.TrueBlueTerrier wrote:I also thought that absorbing and lapsing were in essence the same thing - more outdoor delivery within paid hours.

Re: All year lapsing
I have never done it - for the same reasons - they pegasused my delivery and I now work to time very day - I don't have enough time left to absorb/lapse and that wont change. I work hard already I am not going to work harder just to prove that the impossible is possible even though RM believe it is.kwikpost wrote:well what ever it's called we don't do it. we only did it for 1 week and then it lasted for 3 day's'. all those that took part of the walk out cut off and sent work back. just do the job to the book and you can beat them at their own game.TrueBlueTerrier wrote:I also thought that absorbing and lapsing were in essence the same thing - more outdoor delivery within paid hours.
