Ive had a good look through all my documentation so it must of been on a web site ive trawled all the web sites but still cant find it.

If this comes under the auspices of H&S&E then why doesn't the Health and Safety Rep deal with it? I would imagine many of the issues are closely allied to health and safety anyway. I mean who pays attention to H&S these days let alone green issues - Environmental issues are of a global concern and I can't for the life of me think what on earth any CWU involvement is going to change things by one iota. It's more than likely just another platform for inveterate wafflers.

The union movement including the CWU belive in separate dedicated enviromental reps with release rights enshrined in law and paid for by the employer which is the set up for Safety reps. Both RM and BT gave paid release to safety reps for the enviromental reps course in July. If they maintain that policy and enviroment reps can get the same rights as safety reps then the cost to the CWU will be very low, just a matter of the cost of training courses.

What you ask was disscussed on the course I attended which was mainly safety reps on it which had local, area and regional safety reps on it and the unanimous consenus of opinion was enviromental issues related to the workplace should have thier own dedicated rep rather than bolted on the H & S role.

However no firm decisions by the powers that be in the CWU have been taken yet as to how enviromental issues related to the workplace will be tackled.

So we have an IR Rep, H&S Rep and subsequent deputies and presumably now or in the future a Green Rep also with a deputy - now would it not be possible to combine at least one of the deputies as the Sub Rep for one or other of the two disciplines and to be the Green Rep and the sub rep for the other discipline to be the sub Green Rep, thereby combining the four posts into a cohesive whole. I cannot imagine a situation that demands an immediate response from a Green rep and in truth I cannot imagine a scenario where a Green rep would be needed at all - perhaps you could enlighten me as to what an environmental issue in the workplace would be.

With specific regards to Safety Representatives:

CWU Health & Safety Representation and Consultation in Royal Mail Agreement.
The Agreement recognises that Branches must be able to elect Area Health and Safety Representative Substitutes. In Appendix 2, Paragraph 8.2 the Agreement recognises the need to ensure continuity of Health and Safety representation for CWU members at Area level. Therefore in situations of long term absence of the Area Health and Safety Representative, she/he may be substituted by a trained Workplace/Unit Safety Representative.

you can have a reserve rep. in our branch we have in our biggest delivery unit one 'main' rep, one sub morning rep, one 'assistant' morning rep and one night rep.
never had any manager challenge it.

Anyway, as long as the branch agrees with the number of sub reps sod managment, not as if it's gunna cost them much more anyway.

Saints preserve us, if the company is paying, why not go the whole hog and make every employee a rep of some sort ? The luxury of having loads of people in non-productive jobs when business is booming and we have no competitors is something the company can well afford, isn't it ?

Ah yes, the disgusting pollution that Royal Mail's lorries spit out every day, damaging the environment. Let's mount a campaign to ban all vehicle use, and make all the Network drivers redundant. My learned friend the Health & Safety rep concurs with me on this important issue, as pollution is killing the planet and thus CWU members with it. This cannot be allowed to happen, comrades ! Not only will it kill our members, pollution will devastate CWU finances if members are allowed to die. We don't want them in an early coffin, we want them to keep ... coughing otherwise the only way us reps will only be able to sit around talking bollox all day is if we decide to become managers

This may come as a shock, but there are people in Royal Mail who have different opinions to you. Most of those that do hold those opinions probably don't bother post them on here because of knee-jerk reactions such as yours.
