Transfer

Post by Richie89 »

I've just put in for a transfer to a DO closer to where I live. How long do these usually take to go through? Hoping to get in there by christmas.

Thanks.

Well can't answer your question directly, as i've been asking about my transfer for two months now, and not getting any where fast.
It all depends if the other office has a vacancy, or can do a straight swap, it shouldn't take long. Ask your dom what will be the date that you will be leaving for the transfer. I've not asked yet, and will be on monday...and if no reply is the answer i will be handing in a grievance towards my dom.

Yep, I am going through the same thing, want to move to Peterborough. Reminding my DOM on Monday as well.
Run, rabbit run. Dig that hole, forget the sun.
And when at last the work is done. Don't sit down, it's time to dig another one

People at my MC were asked if they wanted transfers as management are
looking to cut 250 duties. Some of the people who said they would have not
heard anything after 6 months. These other offices are cutting duties too.

Dont want to depress you mate but i have known transfers to drag on 6 months or more.

A fella i know was looking to move north, planned selling his house and live closer to his parents in there 60s.
but his manager dragged his heels,
why?
pure self interest why wouldn't he try and keep a good worker as long as possible and avoid the hassle of paperwork
having to train someone up.
my mate contacted the office he had in mind direct.
got to know the name the manager, explained the situation and inquired about vacancy's found out there were duties to be filled.
the manager at the other end processed the application as it was in his interest to get an experienced worker.

hope this helps.

I have gone through three transfers in my time and i can say if you rely on Royal Mail route, you will be waiting a long time. On all of my transfers i found contacting the office direct the best route.

Try contacting the office you wish to go to DOM and big yourself up a bit. If he needs staff and believes he can save on training time (if he gets you in), you could get in very quickly.

Also contact with the office rep is always usefull.

If the office you wish to go to does not have any vacancies, have a look at surrounding offices. You may be able to get in once your in the area.

Hope this helps.
