Should've said,I'm not union bashing here....I've been in situations where the CWU has been the only defence I've had,and I am grateful.....and I try and make that known to some of the part-timers in our office. No offence, but most are students and RM isn't a career choice for them,it's an in-between job. The way I see it,they're doing the same job,and should be treated the same, but when there's industrial action, and people's jobs are in the balance,it's only right that they back up the workforce......i.e,they don't use it to fill their pockets doing overtime!
I'm expecting the Yes result, and will be on the line, same as everyone...knowing a pay rise is off the table,it's a dead issue, this year at least.
But the CWU has an obligation to back up it's members, everywhere! The least they can do is make the general public aware we're not after more money, the daily working conditions and practises are what matters now. Royal Mail does not employ machines to deliver mail. We're not robots, and they have to realise that.
So,that means no more 24 hour strikes.....no rolling action, nothing! If we walk,.....when we walk......we are doing it as a result of a dispute, and we shouldn't be back until the dispute is resolved. The sooner that happens, the sooner we can all get back to doing what we do.
And managers would do well to remember, the workforce are exactly that....in reality,it's THEIR office,THEIR workplace, therefore, they are entitled to THEIR say!

Re: The cwu leadership
Heres a thought... what if cwu approached royal mail (as a paying customer) requesting these leaflets to be delivered as d2d's?taxi4leighton wrote:agree with comments. i feel best way is to hand out leaflets on saturday afternoon in your own high street, people are in less of a hurry and you have time to explain our plight
That would be rubbing it in and we'd be getting paid for it!!

Gus your having a laugh , I deal with the media quite a bit and believe me there is no extra cash and neither should there be its part and parcel of the job but its just another red herring thown to make out the union corrupt. Again not true.
with regards to doing a d2d drop at the moment contacts are full for the next 6 months so thats a non starter. In London however some offices have had quite a bit of success delivering circulars informing the public within their catchment area of what management are doing. However this has to be done in their own time and out of uniform.

Re: The cwu leadership
Thought that we didn't normally do D2D's during the Xmas fortnight?
